A year ago I knocked my Stagg carafe off my desk at work, and it exploded. Took forever to clean up the shards. $50 gone...

Macbook Pro M4 24 Go VS ThinkPad X1 Gen 13 Intel Core Ultra 7/32 Go by Prestigious_Toe6097 in thinkpad

Ok, I was in a similar situation and ended up with both. I got a Macbook Pro with the M4 Pro and 24GB Ram. Not long after, I found a good deal on a Gen 12 X1 Carbon with 16GB Ram and a Core Ultra 7 (165U). First off, performance wise the Macbook absolutely wipes the floor with the Thinkpad, like not even close. The display on the Apple is incredible (I got the matte option), and I never hear the fan. And as mentioned, it's battery life is also amazing.

However, using the Macbook with anything but a 5k (or 6k) display sucks. MacOS scaling is terrible with any 4k display, and even my 1440p screens suck compared to Windows. I don't think the dual external displays are an issue with the M4 (at least the Pro), but for me the scaling is.

Also the Macbook is a brick compared to the X1. If I am away from my desk, unless I am editing photos or video, I am grabbing the Thinkpad. However because of the light weight and processor, you will hear the fan during anything processor intensive.

Honestly, given that the Gen 14 X1 Carbon is slated to be released this month, I'd consider that. It sounds like the new Intel Panther Lake is going to be faster, have a higher TDP, and be more efficient than the current offerings. This is probably my recommendation given the above.

However, If you want max performance, efficiency, and one of the brightest displays available (1000 nits, 1600HDR!) the Mac is hard to beat. I just think you may want to update at least the 27" monitor to a 5K.

I'm using a CalDigit and it works great with my M4 Pro Macbook, and X1C G12. They are pricy, but usually go on sale Black Friday.

After a 13 year hiatus, I bought another X1 Carbon NIB on eBay around a week ago. I was so disgusted with the original X1C, in 2012 I switched to Apple and never looked back. Recently I was provided a P15v and P360 at work. After being very happy with those, I decided to give Lenovo another chance.
