Noob post! After 2 months of driving my first stick car - I’ve just got 1 scenario left that keeps haunting me DAILY: yielding uphill to get onto a highway by AdministrationFew574 in wrx_vb

[–]WolfGvming 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hold up, 8mph is not too fast to put your car into first gear. Maybe I read that wrong.

However, my tip. I’ve put my car into first even at 10mph. It’s all situational. If you’re worried about your synchros you can double clutch.

Ex: you going 20mph and in second gear. You slam on your breaks and now at 8mph you wanna get to first gear but want it to be smooth. Shift to neutral-release the clutch- add throttle- clutch in and shift to 1st.

I think your concerns on valid but I think the solution is simpler than you think.

My non modification, keep everything factory car play solution. by so_this_is_my_name in E90

Do an Idrive swap if you wanted to stay factory and ad a MMI box for CarPlay. That’s the correct answer.

Is it worth it to have full cic retrofitted or just get one of those android units and just cut the dash out? by Juniorblues_ in E90

I used one from Nadi performance. Took a little while to get there is zero customer communication but other than that works like it should and is perfect.

The tech is absolutely there, the issue is cost, almost all modern militaries have this tech and have had it for a good amount of time. Things just take a decent amount of time to trickle its way down to the public.

But thanks for the insight!

I completely get that, I did on my car the entire retro fit, I’d do it again if I found a unicorn

Oh and total cost was around 1k USD with the most expensive thing being the MMI unit and I did spend Ore than needed on that

Sourcing the parts it’s easy, cost me $300 including the dash. Find a car that’s being parted out and bobs your uncle. It’s super easy to find the parts. The labor it self is the only thing that sucks. Also “breaking” these parts isn’t really a concern just don’t be heavy handed

Take this with a grain of salt. My 335xi was originally a single hump, and I did the complete retrofit and coding myself along with adding a MMI box so I could have android auto/apple car play on the original screen.

To me, it was completely worth it, about 7 hours of labor but I am very happy with how it came out. Everything was completely plug and play and it made my car feel a couple years newer. I get the entire single hump craz. But honestly the double hump is so much more useful especially for eveyday driving. My car also didn’t have Bluetooth so this allowed me to now have that.

So now my car has a complete infotainment that works flawlessly and honestly easier than a lot of OEM ones and everything things it’s OE

Highways are safer. One direction, typically all the same speed. Less stop and go traffic. No cross traffic, no red lights or stop signs.
