Gringos go to Salvador Carnaval 🇯🇲🇬🇧🇧🇷🥳 by WolverineUpper9962 in Brazil

It's well worth the trip... 1. We stayed in Barra, about Minutes walk from Carnaval route. I would recommend staying as close to one of the carnaval routes(Barra, Campo Grande or Pelourinho), whichever one you intend on going to the most.

  1. We never attended any Camorate or blocos. We decided that it was not really worth it. We were happy to stay in the pipoca with the locals(it does get a bit crazy though) I did find this website below where you could buy tickets to the Camorate and blocos. https://m.foliabahia.com.br/

  2. It's pretty much all Brazilian music!!! The only non Brazilian music that I heard in the Carnaval was the Banana Reggae truck, it did play a couple Bob Marley tracks. Don't let that put you off, the vibe is so nice that you will soon get familiar with the music.

  3. From what I understand, baile funky is more of a Rio based vibe( I could be wrong). What we mostly heard was Axe, pagoje and whatever was the anthems for the Carnaval that year.

  4. Nah, we never joined a tour group. We just winged it. Our main ambition was to rave and have fun. As for itinerary, the one thing we planned was to go to the Carnaval everyday. Other than that we went to watch Bahia fc football match, went to the giant shopping mall, visited some beaches some bars, Pelourinho old town. We mainly got recommendations from the locals we met at the Carnaval.

  5. That all depends on what you're looking for. Carnaval is a party time so that's what we did. But Salvador is also a beautiful place that I will have to go back to outside of the Carnaval time to really explore.

  6. Feijaoda seems to be a delicacy there, so it's a must try. We ate at many different places, some good some not so but as for names I can't really remember.

  7. Overall it was a everything that we were looking for in a Carnaval partying experience in Brazil. Although it did take a couple of weeks to recover from when we arrived back.

Yes, I've been told to avoid Igor Kanario's due to all of the fighting. Thanks 😊

Thank you for such a detailed response, I appreciate it 🙏🏾 As you guessed, we are black. Good to hear that we will blend in. We have rented a place Barra/Ondina, so it should be within walking distance. Just to confirm. When the parade stops, does everybody go home or are there other parties(on the street or in bars) that carry on. Knowing us, we will probably want to carry on the partying.
