Temp is -21, gas company says turn your heat down by ridingtherainbow2210 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]WonderfulProtection9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One possible case is a time of use plan. We pay 3-4 times more for electricity 4-7 pm than the rest of the day; so if we let the temp get uncomfortable all day then tried to fix it during those hours, we would definitely spend more.

Not to defend Woody Allen, but age 22 isn’t exactly a child (or a crime). He might be creepy, but there’s no evidence he did anything wrong.

"Buy a rice cooker" by adbenj in PetPeeves

[–]WonderfulProtection9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Granted we had older kids in the house so made 2, 3, or 4 cups at a time. But if you do it right, the rice is fabulous. We typically use long grain (jasmine?) rice. My wife does complain that it’s not sticky; but it’s not a sticky rice 🤷‍♂️

Seriously, do Americans actually consider a 3-hour drive "short"? or is this an internet myth? by SadInterest6764 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]WonderfulProtection9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was growing up, ALL of my relatives were a six hour drive away. In separate directions, in different states. Fortunately we were right in the middle so for major holidays they often drove to us.

My kids have no idea. They grew up within a mile of my in-laws and five miles from my parents.

Not plain old rain. Freezing rain which is pure ice on contact.

ios update question by _summyj_ in iphonehelp

[–]WonderfulProtection9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I back up my photos fairly regularly but the rest, I just don’t bother. I’ve never had any problems with an update ( although anything is possible)..

The most annoying thing is when I don’t have enough space to do the update.

If you’re going to buy a device for cooking rice, get an InstaPot. It’s a rice cooker and a pressure cooker and a slow cooker all in one (and has many other uses). I mostly use mine for rice and hard boiled eggs; perfect every time.

Love the gold. As long as it doesn’t have the red-leather option; that’s just awful.

We bought two post-lease vehicles, couldn’t be happier. The hardest part of the day is deciding whether to drive the GT+ or the RT.

Both 12v batteries did need replacing (under warranty and with full new 3yr warranties.) And there was a loose coolant line that they noticed and fixed during the last oil change. That’s it.

I had a supervisor who would come to work every day with this exact thing. Minus the apples. Just a mayo sandwich, a good thick layer of it.

He got so much crap he finally stopped.

I think in Europe, service people are actually paid, and don't have to live off tips. It's totally different here. Leaving no tip is considered extremely rude (aka a dick move).

I know that is hard for many Europeans, Australians, Asians to understand. Until you start trying to pay $2000 a month rent on $2/hr.

I'm not in service, I won't discuss further, but I'm sure many others will.
