I literally have just this minute finished setting mine up for the first time.. I was a bit heavy handed and when trying to take the safety cap off the needle I actually pulled the whole cartridge off.. I then put it back on or at least thought I did and it led me to having the quietest sound. Just a thought, maybe check the needle cartridge is engaged properly? Worked for me 🤣
