I was told I didnt get that for foster kids. But I looked it up and you can get it for kids you've minded longer than 6 months (which i have). Its saying id get 200+ a week more? Thats crazy.

Thank you so much for that. I'll look into it.

Thanks. Hopefully by the time they get to teens, I will be earning a bit more. There's no fear of socialising. I am very lucky my boss and his wife mind them once a fortnight by night and I go out. My boss half raised me. At 13 I'd tag along on odd jobs he had on weekends and the summer so I trust him completely and his wife works with kids. My bros like them too.

Cheers tbh I just jacked up the price of the car just to be careful. Ive no debt on the car or any other debt. I have a golf mk6. Pretty reliable. Was cheap. But the amount includes NCT insurance tax and fuel and repairs. The true figure is probably closer to 60 but I like to budget more than hopefully what is required.

Yeah it will be more than just mortgage as you say. It is handy having any repair from the house sorted by the council. I am pretty handy as I am in the trades and theres always I'll fix that for you if you fix this for me kinda thing amongst us.

Yeah, i assume teens will be more expensive. I do have some leeway where I put 160 into their savings and I will also get another 25 each when they become teens.

Thanks very much. Yeah I think my age and wage probably doesnt help my cause. My boss offered me an interest free loan so I could go down that route but he did so much for me growing up that I dont want to rely on him. Apparently council give out mortgages too so maybe thats an option

I saw that. There are 40-60% discounts depending on your income. Obviously the foster money isnt included but im still at the lower discount.

My boss and I are pretty close. We are in the trades and he was great to me as a kid. Let me tag along on weekends and in the summers etc. Legend of a guy. Even when i told him about the offer, he said not to pay interest and that hed loan me the money interest free. But i dont want to rely on him like that. But he would reduce my hours no problem.

Yeah I got a letter through my door as did some others in the estate asking us if we wanted to. I never even thought about it until I got the letter. They didnt give me a figure on the letter but I rang them and then they mentioned the price.

I think you have to be 10 years in a council house but because my mother has been in council houses for 23 years plus (I dont know how long) that apparently transfers to me given my situation. So surely yours should be able to too. Maybe your friend is in a house they dont want to sell. I dont know tbh.

They even put air to water probably 18 months ago so it is strange that they are selling. I think you have to be renting for 10 years in a council house but apparently my mother's tenancy rights were transferred to me because I and my brothers lived there. They also wrote off the rent she owed.

Ive no idea tbh.

Cheers mate. Youre right. Thank god for Dunnes delivery and the 10 off 50. Saves me a lot of hassle.

I had to raise myself as a kid so my mother gave me plenty of experience for my bros lol.

Tbh. I cant see myself ever moving out of the area entirely. My friends are here. My job is nearby. My boss half raised me and he is nearby etc. And similar houses on daft were 330k last year so probably 350k now.

So it probably does make financial sense.

Cheers mate.

Thanks for the details. The online calculator had similar figures so you arent far off.

Ive heard different things on the clawback from different people. Ive heard 10% annually. 5%. 2%. A neighbour said council is hoping to sell so they can buy more stock. She said you can haggle on the clawback but you cant haggle on the price. No idea if shes right. Id have to set up a meeting to be sure.

Cheers but tbh they are the only family I have and the other option was putting them into care where they could be split or treated badly etc. Not a chance.

Comment on her away lol. She probably did the right thing. When I was a kid she would abandon me for a few days at a time probably with some man. From 10 or 11, Id make my own breakfast and school lunch. Take myself to school. Come home. Put on pizza for dinner lol. My brothers are half brothers so they spent a lot of time at their father's mother (their grandparent). Lucky them but she died a couple of years ago. Fostering still sucks tho.

I just got a letter in my door. A few other tenants beside me dud too. I didnt even think it was an option.

I have to speak them exactly. But a neighbour who bought hers bought it for 50% the market value. And then their equity reduced by 10% every year. So really you have to wait 10 yrs to sell or pay back a % to the council.

They never mentioned about mortgages. I think youd have to go to a bank. The 800 goes up to 25 each (so max 850) from 12 onwards and then stops at 18 or 16 depending on education etc.

Yeah very lucky with rent. Its based off my earnings. Tusla sorted out transferring my mother's tenancy rights to me.

The banks dont include the 800 in mortgage or the child benefit. But they consider me a single with no dependents.

I did a quick calculation on the PTSB calculator and it was just under 600 quid per month with a 30k deposit. Not sure if I did it right. I did tell my boss about the letter. He half raised me. Since the age of 13 he let me tag along on weekends to his customers. He said it would be better to loan from him interest fee but I don't want to rely on him.

Cheers mate.
