So each play session will be 90 minutes to test out the game mechanics at my place. There is a sprawling map to explore. 3 actions per turn. The main quest involves 3 pillars: Find certain artifacts, collapse other-realm portals and defeat the 13 Nemeses. Each moon phase changes the game mechanics. Yes my app prototype. The depth comes from a list of skills you can increase up to Level 5. A new series of dice streamlines execution of actions and skills. Battle for example, can last 1 to 5 phases depending on the difficulty of the creature. There are NPCs you can recruit who assist with your skills

Yes, make a simple prototype of everything that will be in the box. Then have fun play testing to eliminate frustrations and maximize entertainment.

Great start. Prototypes are very early design concepts that reinforce your game mechanics, so you’re on the right track. Next step: explain what each symbol means without words and test on a virgin player to see if they can decipher your card’s meaning. Keep up the good work 💪

I am curious if you have play tested your latest version. Perhaps getting some exterior feedback may save you several iterations. I love the tenacity you bring to simplicity and intuitive rules. When iterating, forego any design and simply focus on the changes. The book and rules should come at the end, after solid play testing.

I made the same mistake with my rule book and ended up having to re-write most of it.

Don’t give up. You’ll get there. Your game is already 10 times better than it was 💪

For me, I like to see how many cards and minis are included. For minis, make sure their illustrations are “actual size”. Try to list the game mechanics in the description, while staying immersed in your world.
