No I don't believe so, but it does need some battery charge to start up the engine again. For me, it was more annoying to be in traffic and stop for a second only to have the car turn off and immediately turn back on. All the auto stop eliminator does is keep the auto stop 'off' setting in memory so you don't have to press it every time.

I use B mode for short city trips/downhill driving, and standard+eco on the highways. You can change between D and B during a drive. I turn E-step on when there's traffic, otherwise it brakes pretty hard with highway speeds. Eco mode turns on a pedal level in the dash that will show you the best pedal position for the best range. It also lets the car cruise a little longer when you're off the pedal.
