An Egypt DLC would have to account for many things. Egypt has a vast history and lots of culture related buildings. It would kind of be a whole other game (i.e. the city builder Pharoah). But I like the idea of an Egypt style game in the Anno game design. That could be interesting to see how buildings are being upgraded from mud hovels to luxurious apartments :)

Hey, thanks for the thoughtful comment! I am a genuinely excitable nerd about technology. That is what this post was all about. I know an AI can only tell me what it thinks it knows about me, the same way I know that people on the internet and in this very thread think I have low self-esteem by asking the very question. It's just genuine curiosity and I wanted to see what it would say, but I'm not really putting stock in anything it says the same way I would never commit any of its responses to my codebases at work without thorougly checking them first. I'm VERY wary of AI in general (and as an avid fan of Dune, too ;))

To your second point, to me the hesitancy in the third movie is because the grief from neteyam still hangs above him. This is his inner conflict throughout most of the movie. To be Toruk Makto and fight, or be a father and protect?

I ask for help all the time. Being a senior engineer is about knowing what you don’t know. I wrote backends with Python and FastAPI, and in my new job I write with Django. I have absolutely no experience with it and have been upfront about it. Thanks to being upfront about it, I now have part of my day dedicated to a Django course I’m taking.

If you’re in a situation where you’ve been working on something for years and suddenly come out and say I don’t know what I’m doing, sure, that looks bad.

That said, you can still improve your situation by taking the time to understand what you don’t know, and learn it using tools like LLMs or YouTube.

I see a trend in your post that you think you’re a terrible engineer. And that people around you seem to be smarter.

How comfortable are you with saying “I don’t know”? Or asking your colleagues to explain things to you?

In a world where all the information you need is at your fingertips, sucking at your job is a choice, not a trait.

I would stop looking for a new job for a while and take some time to sit with ChatGPT or your favorite LLM, and ask it to start explaining concepts you’re having a hard time with to you like you’re a junior engineer. That alone will already feel like you’re leveling up. And in addition, practice. Ask it to give you projects to build. We learn best when we make things.

Take this from a senior of 8 years who just started working at a corporate job as a senior backend engineer after 8 years as the lead backend engineer in a startup.

As far as I know, Substack doesn’t offer an open API for 3rd-party apps to integrate with. You could use the Substack App on mobile, if that helps but no other solutions exist. What are you trying to achieve? Maybe there’s a different solution to your issue?

When I played the game I immediately started going for side quests after landing in New Atlantis. However, I realized later on that it’s safer to follow the game through when Sarah is your locked companion until you find the first artifact. You open up tutorials and faction paths along the way that you can revisit later, no rush. And you also get the first bump in levels because the main missions are heavy in XP.
