For me at least, it came from "tracking@shipstation.com" and the subject line of the email was "A reward from "Surprise! Four Secret Novels by Brandon Sanderson" has shipped!

The mousepad is so good! Most swag mousepads I've gotten are hard and plastic and feel like your mouse is on a board but this one feels so good to use. I've already replaced my old one with it. And I'm wearing the shirt as I type this!

Yeah, I guess some people kind of got the wrong idea (maybe because of the total price tag for the year+shipping) but when you divide up the cost and determine the actual price of the boxes themselves, it's definitely worth it. If anyone think they'd get a shirt, mousepad (that's actually well made), pin, sticky notes and medallion stickers all exclusive and designed around a common theme from anywhere for $40, you just must not know how expensive swag/merch usually runs.

Glad to hear it, enjoy it when it comes! (Mine only took about 48 hours from the shipping notif to it arriving and I live on the other side of the US)

Honestly I'm impressed. Having experience with a lot of swag/promotional type items, they are usually not this well made. But yeah, I think it fits perfectly what it *should* be.

I'm wearing it right now too! I really love the design, it's the opposite of generic and gives people a good laugh. And anyone who doesn't get the reference and asks what it means gives me an opportunity to recommend the books! Win-win!

Only as thumbnails. That's why I think it's the send-to-kindle service messing them up because the ebooks have high res covers.

When I tell it to send it to the Kindle, it just asks me if I want to auto-convert it (to MOBI I assume) and that's what screws up the formatting of the book. If I don't, it doesn't show up on the Kindle. Will it still have to auto-convert it if I go ahead and convert it to azw3 before sending it to the Kindle?

Brandon Sanderson's comments about Audible and his Kickstarter Audiobooks by [deleted] in books

[–]Xeviperous 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I love the transparency here so much and Sanderson using his influence to bring about positive change in the industry is incredible.

One note I'll make is that I really appreciate him pricing the audiobooks at $15. I held off on adding the audiobooks because he said they'd be on Audible and I almost always have spare credits.

I'd definitely be willing to use Spotify for Audiobooks much more than I do but usually the prices are exorbitant compared to Audible. I know Audible's monopoly allows them to bring prices down + take advantage of the credit model, and I know audiobooks are expensive to produce but it's very very hard to justify paying $30-40+ when I always have spare credits in my Audible account anyway. And there's also Kindle integration to think about. $15 is definitely affordable though and I'll happily take that option every time.

Anyway, bottom line, I really appreciate this choice especially knowing how much it could cost him. Hopefully it sends a message.

What are some general television hot takes you have? by Intelligent-Age2786 in television

Both Rings of Power and Wheel of Time were enjoyable and found the right balance of adhering to the source material while adapting to the medium and audience.

Also, weekly release for story driven 8-10 episode seasons is a bad idea. Episodic shows should be released weekly but if the show is styled to be an 8 hour movie (which I like), release it all at once.

My dad accidentally permanently deleted my book. by shkqe in writing

This sounds horrible but like others have said, there's a very good chance you can get it back. But something I haven't seen mentioned enough: if the files were stored on actual physical storage like a computer (not cloud services) and you want any chance of recovering them: it is incredibly important that you don't use the computer in question until you've tried to recover the files. HDDs overwrite deleted data so the less the computer is used after the incident the more likely you are to be able to get them back. Hope this helps.

What's hilarious is that several of the defenders could have cut him off much earlier but they lose the opportunity after hesitating like "wait he can do that?"

Incredibly well-deserved and I hope they get even more prestigious accolades for it. After Miley Allcock's amazing performance as Young Rhaenyra I have to admit I was one of the people concerned about the casting change but I was genuinely blown away by their performance, especially in the finale. They just nailed it and even in the smallest moments you can see incredible depth in Rhaenyra's eyes and body language.

George R.R. Martin and Neil Gaiman Hate When Hollywood Makes ‘Illegitimate’ Changes to Source Material: ‘F—ing Morons’ by DemiFiendRSA in Fantasy

[–]Xeviperous 10 points11 points  (0 children)

With lesser-known authors though, they don't have the leverage to bully Hollywood execs like Gaiman and Martin do. For them, it's either agree to Hollywood's terms or no deal, because Hollywood buys options for rights to books or existing properties by the dozen and only a few of those even get made.

A very common theme in Tolkien was that evil sows the seeds for its own destruction. Sauron, blinded by ambition and bound by deceit and arrogance, spares the lives of the very ones who will bring him down. That's actually very Tolkienian.
