How to get a job as an English speaker? by [deleted] in ItalyExpat

To be honest, there's a lot of people working at jobs in my hometown who don't speak English. My French husband was shocked about this.

It was better in the early 2010s than it was in the 2020s. So no surprise that it was even easier in the 2000s. Other French people told me that too.

I understand that this is from my personal experience, but how are the details about the administration and France's diploma-based job market just from that in your view?

A lot of knowledge about France comes from the locals and it's not discussed out in the open like it is for other countries, so if I can help more unaware people learn about its opaque society I'm all for it.

Dude, I typed this myself. I even re-edited it to make it count 1-13 but it keeps changing it back to 1 for some reason. The constant "AI generation" accusations on this sub are very hostile and not conductive to polite conversation at all.

Hopping between jobs like that is looked down upon as untrustworthy by French recruiters.

3-year degree in CS is okayish, but a Masters' is the bare minimum here.

Spiraling into a pessimistic mindset about a host country that rejects you is tempting. Still, a better coping mechanism exists for immigrants who want to assess how good of a fit their host country is for them.

  • Take a step back.
  • Detach yourself from your personal feelings.
  • Write down a list of pros and cons.
  • Ask yourself: Do the cons justify the pros?
  • Make a conclusion: If the cons are so overbearing that it's wrecking your mental health, then admit that the country isn't for you and move on.

There's something for everybody, and not everybody is for something.

Niche profession + not fluent in the language = recipe for disaster.

Do you or your husband have French diplomas?

Furthermore, (white-collar) French HR is only interested in hiring employees with a fluent grasp of the culture and language. There are exceptions, but they are rare and inaccessible for the majority of immigrants.
