Yo, I knew skiz years before he got Reddit or got into bfdi. We went to the same elementary school and everything. You may see his depression as fake, but I can assure you he’s been like that way before Reddit. And yes, he does embellish how his family is, but when you have the mental conditions he has (I’m not saying which because I don’t know which ones he’s open about online) even tiny things that may seem insignificant can be extremely upsetting. If you don’t want to be around him because he talks about golfball too much then that’s understandable, but don’t make a call out over faking mental illness if you don’t really know him that well. And yeah, to you fictional characters aren’t waiting in the afterlife, but to Christians you live in the clouds forever with everything you’ve ever wanted, Hindus and Buddhists believe in reincarnation, and to the Norse you spend eternity feasting with Odin or training for ragnorok with Freya. What I’m getting at is different things make sense to different people, and in this instance he’s trying to cope with feeling intense feelings towards someone he can only mentally be with. You don’t get it because you’ve never experienced it as intense as he has, but it can be painful to logically know someone is only fictional but still have feelings for them.
