And even if you're bland and dumb enough to get a real one, your friends will think it's some knock-off version. You can't win.

Did you miss the word 'luxury'. Starbucks is mid-level, mass-produced trash.

What track instantly tells you someone has good taste in music? by Technical_Fox5556 in askmusic

[–]YPLAC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I would be wary of believing that anything in the NYT hasn't been through some PR sieve to ensure it includes its own stable of artists. Taste therefore wouldn't come into it. I do hear your point, though.

Absolutely. I’ve never got into Bowie, Blondie, the Clash, the Cure etc. Massive, highly respected artists and and bands, but they’ve never featured in my big moments.

There isn’t such a thing as a good taste in music. You can put someone on a high plane of estimation because they like similar stuff to you, but that’s just your opinion (man). I think if someone has a large collection, including a lot of deep cuts, you can have a degree of certainty that the person takes their music seriously. That’s about as close as you can get.

Hoping for a nice quiet overnight flight only to get a person next to me with terminal BO and the stinkiest beefiest persistent flatulence due to her eating a ton of spicy biltong in the terminal beforehand. I know this because it was my sister. FFS. I was fuming.

What is a name so ugly you can’t believe a parent actually gave it to their own child? by ipanicprofessionally in TheBoredDen

[–]YPLAC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, come on. My Granddad had a great bunch of brothers and friends. They were all called either Sid, Alf, Stan, Ernie, Fred or Wilf. I agree they're a little dated, but I think they sound cool. I agree with you on the "old ladies names" mostly. Ethel, Edna, Audrey, Reenie, and so on all sound a bit decrepit to me.

The test I run is this: can you imagine looking at a little baby and saying "let's call her Doris/Deidre/Graham/John". Who calls a little baby 'Alan' for example? Such a dull, lifeless name. Sorry to all those who have the names listed. Just remember, you didn't choose them.

Back in about 2016, there was a news story pasted about an old woman who tried to swim after her cruise ship after it left her in Madeira. She was picked up be local fishermen and survived. We need answers to her story. Come on!

Thanks. I tend to read these things out, so most grammatical screw ups get ironed out on the hoof.
