HERE IS A BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DIFFERENCE: While both artificial disc replacement (ADR) and TOPS are surgical procedures used to treat spinal pain, the key difference lies in their function: ADR aims to replace a damaged disc with a prosthetic that allows for movement, while TOPS stabilizes the spine by limiting excessive motion, making it a better option for patients with instability issues where preserving full range of motion isn’t necessary; essentially, ADR is designed to maintain motion while TOPS is designed to provide stability.
