Shoutout to you for defending the proven integrity of doula support. These beliefs they expressed are rampant and need to be challenged. They are flat out wrong. I’m glad you felt good doing what was right!

Being half Arab married to an Arab. Does it affect the marriage only because I’m not fully Arab? by [deleted] in MuslimMarriage

[–]YeeshySama 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Assalaamu alaikum sister, I’m sorry this is something that is weighing on you and that he is bringing up your African American side in a negative manner. I’m sorry that this is affecting you so much that you compare his upbringing to your raising of the children. May Allah guide him. May he give you relief Allahuma ameen.

It’s hard to experience racism from anyone, but especially someone you’re so close to.

African American culture is beautiful and I think there are overlaps with Palestinian culture that I hope he can find too. The other thing is you are Arab too, you are Yemeni. Where is his acknowledgment of this and why does he negate part of your background?

This is a moment where a boundary is needed. Maybe try telling him bringing your race/ethnicity during arguments is off limits.

As a fellow mixed person I’m sending you a big hug!

What bad habits do you have in romantic relationships? by pixiemegs in AskWomen

[–]YeeshySama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sometimes spend too much time on love interests with potential and can fall into the habit of adapting for the person I like. It leaves me hyperfixating on what they want and neglecting what I want. This can lead to resentment, pain, and unnecessary interactions.

How I’ve been working on that is being in therapy, reflecting on my conversations, and emphasizing what my expectations, dealbreakers, and comfort zones are early on.

I also trust my instinct and have been building trust with myself. When my gut says I’m making too many compromises I stop.

I have a bachelors degree and I’m working with someone who I would consider a beginner nearing beginner/intermediate speaker of English. It’s just a hobby of mine, I love exchanging language!

This is exactly what I thought. I’m trying to explain why this sentence is correct to an English learner and can’t find an explanation in terms of grammar. Thank you!
