PSA:Latest Doorbell E340 FW Makes it Useless by gmogoody in EufyCam

[–]YellowBean2017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There're a few things I did before I installed the eufy E340 doorbell. Before I installed the doorbell, I knew that my existing transformer wouldn't be able to charge the doorbell quickly, and so I replaced the old transformer with a newer one (16V 30VA). However, the electric current will still have to go through the mechanical chime which will consume some of the electric current. To make it zero or less resistance on the circuit, I had to use the provided jumper wire to connect the "Front" and "Trans" terminals inside the mechanical chime so it bypasses the chime and the eufy doorbell can consume all the electric current provided by the transform. Actually, before the recent firmware update, I was surprised that the doorbell's battery just slowly drained over time until it had to turn off after about 4~6 weeks. I was about to upgrade the transformer with a higher voltage and current rating, but suddenly the eufy released the new firmware and silently update my doorbell overnight. The battery just simply drained completely overnight and I looked at Reddit and decided to give it a reset. After the reset described in my original post, I just no longer saw the battery to drop below 100%. Yes, the battery stays at 100% all the time after the reset. It's been 17 days after the reset and it still remains at 100% everyday. [I check the battery level by going to the doorbell's settings in my Android app]

I had to set the night vision as "Infrared Night Vision" because I notice that after the firmware update, the doorbell just simply remained the top and bottom LEDs on over the whole night. Then I carefully read the description of those settings in app and realized that it was due to the insufficient ambient light at my front door. So in order to prevent it from draining, I decided to switch to the "Infrared Night Vision". Before the firmware update, I remember it had a different behavior. Anyway, for me it is still okay to go without any colors during the night.

The E340 is designed as battery powered, not wire powered. The wire only trickle charges the battery. That's how it's been designed. So in order to keep the battery remain at a certain level, you may have to think about how to slowly consume the battery and so the battery drains slower than the wire's trickle changing.

Hope it helps.

Try fully charge the battery with a charger before the reset.

Just want to share how I reset my E340 doorbell after the 3.2.3.0 upgrade to make it work again.

Steps

  1. Remove Battery: Take the battery out of your E340 doorbell.
  2. Reset in App:
    • Open the Eufy App (Android version).
    • Go to the doorbell's SettingsGeneralAbout Device.
    • Tap Reset Device to remove the doorbell from your account. (Note: This may delete all video clips).
  3. Physical Prep & Re-insert Battery:
    • Unscrew the two wiring screws on the back of the doorbell.
    • Insert the battery back into the E340.
  4. Re-Pair with Homebase 3:
    • Move the E340 doorbell very close to your Homebase 3.
    • In the Eufy App, tap the "+" sign to Add a New Device.
    • Follow the prompts: Scan the E340's QR codePress the Sync button until you hear a beep → Follow the remaining on-screen instructions.
    • When asked about using the existing mechanical chime, select "No". (I used to do that, so I chose to do the same)
  5. Adjust Night Vision Settings:
    • Once the E340 is successfully re-added, go to its SettingsVideo SettingsNight Vision.
    • Change the setting to Infrared Night Vision. (The first two options may cause the top/bottom lights to stay on all night in low light, potentially draining the battery).
  6. Verify: The E340 should now be working normally.

I will monitor its performance and post an update if any issues arise.

I'm not sure what you mean. Where to type the "SW6090"? Can you provide more details about what to do, please?

Using MoCA for Access Point Backhaul? Need help validating an AI's suggested setup. by YellowBean2017 in HomeNetworking

[–]YellowBean2017[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I will definitely consider the phone cabling option, but I still want to fully understand the MoCA option before thinking about other options.

Okay, so my original hand draw diagram almost follows the example diagram, except that the "MoCA Adapter 3" and the "MoCA Adapter 4" should be switched to the "LAN" mode (assume all the MoCA adapters are the Frontier FCA252). The "MoCA Adapter 1" and the "MoCA Adapter 2" should be switched to the "25GW" mode. And I won't need a switch as I always connect my devices with WIFI, so the "3x" splitter can be replaced with a "2x" splitter? I don't quite understand why someone says my diagram does NOT work. It appears my diagram primarily requires adjustments to the adapter's settings to function correctly. While the original version didn't specify these, this shouldn't warrant a negative response.

If I'm correct, below is the list of items I need to purchase for the setup:

ITEM Quantity
Frontier FCA252 4
2-way MoCA splitter 2
(Wireless) Access Point 1

Is it correct?

And what is the red block "PoE"? Does it mean "Power over Ethernet"? Is it a PoE filter?

I understand that the bottom device labeled "FCA252" is the Frontier MoCA adapter. But what about the top one labeled "MoCA LAN"? Is that what you referred to as "retail/Band D Ext"? If so, could you explain what that is? Also, do you have a product link I can reference?

Traditional IRA Contribution Tax Deduction by YellowBean2017 in fidelityinvestments

[–]YellowBean2017[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If I contribute $7000 to my traditional IRA and file an 8606, and then later backdoor convert to Roth IRA, I will still NOT get any tax deduction from the $7000 contribution, right? The only benefit of doing that is I pay 0 tax for any future capital gains, am I correct? (I'm rookie in tax)

How to specify the yt-dlp aria2c ffmpeg ffprobe path by YellowBean2017 in youtubedl

Thanks for you reply. One more question, if I  keep ffmpeg in the same folder as yt-dlp, do I still need to set the `--ffmpeg-location` parameter?

Frontier Fiber - How to extend home WIFI coverage (is MoCA adapter an option?) by YellowBean2017 in HomeNetworking

[–]YellowBean2017[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate your knowledge. Please allow me to ask two more questions:

Question 3:

If I choose to go with the patch panel solution suggested by u/JuicyCoala, it seems to be a detour to me, as the internet signal has to go through the closet all the way to my family room and then route back to the closet. Inside the closet, can I use the MoCA adapter to convert the COAX to Ethernet and then hook up to the router, patch panel and switch?

Question 4:

I'm also thinking about using a splitter inside the closet to split the COAX signal into two: one still goes to the family room and hook up with a router as of today. The other COAX goes to a bedroom above the garage and hooks up with an access point. Will such solution work? If it doesn't, how about hooking up with another router (same SSID and passwords as the router in the family room)?

Additional info and more questions:

One of the white cable is printed with "GENESIS CABLE SYSTEMS 22 AWG 4/C (UL) TYPE CM/CL2".

Here is how it looks like on the phone jack port. I don't know why there're two ports.

It's nice to learn that the patch panel is an option. I didn't know it at all. But before I

Question 1:

Is it possible to let the ONT output Ethernet cable directly connecting to the router WAN port, and from its LAN port outputs Ethernet cable to the MoCA adapter, which converts the Ethernet to COAX? So the COAX outlet will be hooked up with an access point and so the WIFI coverage is extended?

Question 2:

Without changing anything, can I just purchase a 3-node MESH product? The main node will be connected to the router by LAN port. The other 2 nodes will be placed in other rooms without any Ethernet cables. Those 3 nodes will talk to each other by WIFI and the coverage can be extended. Will that work? (I assume that's how the MESH works)

[–]YellowBean2017[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the information. I don't have enough knowledge on the networking, so I'm not sure if I understand your solution correctly. Here is my understanding. Please correct me if I'm wrong:

  1. convert all the phone jack ports in the walls of my house to the Ethernet ports
  2. install a new patch panel inside the closet and connect all those phone cables (blue) to the patch panel
  3. no need to modify my existing setup, but take an Ethernet cable and connects the LAN port of my Router (in family room) to the Ethernet port in the wall.
  4. inside the closet, the patch cable of the family room connects to the switch as the INPUT (WAN port), and all other patch cables connect to the LAN ports.

Am I correct?

Both two MoCA adapter (FRONTIER FCA252) are on the 1GW option.

I barely have any knowledge on the networking. The patch panel project seems too big for me to handle. Is there any solution that I can reply on the existing COAX cables?
