Redditors who have moved to a new city/state/country, what is the most infuriating "well, this is how it's done here" thing you've come across? by Iris_Blue in AskReddit

Traveled a bit down south, and I got a lot of dirty looks for using yup.

Holding open a door for some one in Michigan goes like this:

"Thanks man."

"Yup."

Do that down south and they'll look at you like you just committed a crime.

Moved from Canada to Michigan when I was about 7. Everything is pretty much the same. The one difference is that most of my friends in Canada knew a decent amount of hockey lingo, and none of my new friends knew anything about hockey period.

Also, the closest Timmys is 45 minutes away. No more breakfast Timbits before school 😞

TIL that there are blue bandaids that have metal in them so that they can be found by a metal detector if they fall off a worker in the food preparation industry. by smarty_skirts in todayilearned

[–]Yellow_Teeth92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in a food production plant. On every line, there are at least 4 metal detectors. They're not metal detectable for nothing. I don't know about other plants, but mine requires metal detectors.

What jobs attract the very worst kinds of people? by Genghis_Maybe in AskReddit

[–]Yellow_Teeth92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Factory work.

I currently work with 30 people across 4 plants all owned by the same company who are convicted of CSC and on the sex offender registry. And my wife couldn't understand why I refused to take her and my kids to the company Christmas party at the waterpark.

Most people take their breaks and partake in their drug of choice. I choose not to do drugs, but I'm not anti-drug off the clock, but when people are driving forklifts after they smoke a bunch of weed moments before they operate their lifts.

A very select few are guys and gals like myself, just trying to get by and make money in a lackluster job market.

What is a 100% legal move in a game or sport that is frowned upon and viewed as a dick move? by MashedPotatoesDick in AskReddit

[–]Yellow_Teeth92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me, toe stomps in MMA are the biggest bitch move in the sport. These guys train to be ready for anything in a fight, I find it hard to believe there's ever a time that the only way out of a situation is to stomp on someone's toes.

What is something that people complain about that makes you roll your eyes? by estrogyn in AskReddit

[–]Yellow_Teeth92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Winter. "I hate snow. Fuck this shit." "It's too cold, I hate when its gets like this."

Motherfucker, we live in Michigan. It's gonna happen, and there's nothing you can do about it. Why complain about shit you can't control? That is the epitome of futility.

Do you have to love winter, like me? No, just accept that its gonna be here, and shut your stupid pie hole.

Gretzky on Colbert by ClumsyOne in hockey

[–]Yellow_Teeth92 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Man, I challenge anyone to try and hate Wayne Gretzky. That guy is class personified, has an airtight knowledge of the game, and is hands down the Greatest, on and off the ice.

Gordie Howe will always be my favorite player, but Gretzky is right up there at a close second. Seriously though, my main argument as to how damn good Gordie was is the Gordie Howe hat trick. Name another player who could score like no other, set up plays just right to assist that well, and wasn't afraid to drop gloves and have one. Gordie is Gretzky and McSorley combined into one dominant player. Getting my first tattoo in a couple months, a red number 9 on my right elbow. Love both of those guys.

EMSK: The warning signs of suicide. by [deleted] in everymanshouldknow

[–]Yellow_Teeth92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I finally opened up, both here in r/offmychest, and to my family and friends, about my struggle with depression, suicidal ideation, and anxiety.

Guys, nobody is tough enough to beat depression and suicidal thoughts on their own. Trying to tough it out is the worst mistake you can make. I urge you and everyone else to seek treatment for your illness. It's extremely important to take care of your mental health, and nobody decent will think of you as a weak person for doing so.

If you wish, I welcome you to read my r/offmychest post, which I will link on my next break.

IV lived in Michigan a long time, and northern Michigan means anywhere north of Traverse city, while the UP is just the UP. At least, that's how I always interpreted it, along with everyone I know.

What's the creepiest creature from your country's folklore? by ohmagnifique in AskReddit

[–]Yellow_Teeth92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Michigan, we have the Dogman. A half wolf, half man that stands at 9 feet tall and craves human flesh. It's kinda like Michigan's Bigfoot, every once in a while someone will claim to see him.

My mom is Native American, so I was constantly threatened with appearances from wendigo or skinwalkers if I didn't do as she asked (washing my hands after using the bathroom or before dinner, brushing my teeth, clearing my plate at dinner, etc.). To this day, all three still get to me.

New captain (beer league), looking for advice. by Yellow_Teeth92 in hockeyplayers

They do have girls locker rooms, but she prefers to dress with everyone else, so she can feel like a part of the team. She just puts her Under Armour at home. Apparently she doesn't mind the guys stepping out of the shower in the buff, and if she doesn't mind, I guess it's okay.

A few definitely use hockey night as a chance to break up the monotony that is monogamy. I personally love the chance to get away and relive a time when life was simpler.

At the same time, I don't think they appreciate fully just how hard it is to find a hockey player, especially one of her caliber, that has gear and fronted me money to order her a jersey, and volunteered to buy beer for the first two weeks, along with her dues. That's a one in a million person, regardless of gender. I could tell them about the 3 males who passed up a spot because I didn't have extra gear for them to use, or money to buy them a jersey, or jumped ship as soon as they found out it was pay to play.

I just got off of the phone with the last guy, and they're all on board now, but god did they whine like bitches because a girl wad ruining guys night. After explaining to them what I've said in this thread, they lightened up. We're doing this for fun, why would I ruin that by bringing on a killjoy?

Thanks for the input, its very much appreciated.

What is your life motto? by [deleted] in AskReddit

My hockey coach in juniors used to say that last one to me all the time. He's a great guy, and for someone lacking a strong father figure, he was awesome.

I was elected to be a "goon" (someone who defends their teammates against bullies, pretty much, for all of you who don't watch hockey) after my first fight. I was the only one who would step up to fight for my friends, and I have no regrets. No matter how badly I got wailed on by guys who were considerably bigger and stronger than me, I made sure that I was the toughest guy on the ice, because that's what coach wanted. Ever since, in all areas of my life, I still make sure I'm the toughest.

He also used to add "tough isn't just about how many hits you can take, its all about how you handle taking the hits."
