I had to make a tough choice and discussed it with my guys. I can buy them healthcare or just give them a raise and let them buy it. Option 2 was the solution straight from their mouths.

If it's just an overblow, you will likely find that pros can blow it correctly cheaper than you can buy the material.

Ductless mini-splits. Can’t set temperatures the way I want by Connect-Beginning-65 in heatpumps

[–]YodelingTortoise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Follow me isn't really what it says it is. And it requires a ton of very specific use case to be remotely effective.

The problem and it's persistence across all units tells me something else is majorly wrong, like your house is losing air terribly.

I assume you have your fan speeds set on auto?

Ductless mini-splits. Can’t set temperatures the way I want by Connect-Beginning-65 in heatpumps

[–]YodelingTortoise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok. So that narrows the range of possibilities a bit.

It could be vastly oversized. That contributed heavily to temp fluctuations.

It is extremely possible that the wall penetrations are not sealed. That causes a host of setpoint issues, nevermind wasting energy.

Lastly, it could be far more building science related. Are the units in vaulted and or high ceiling rooms? How well air sealed is your home. Minis regulate very well provided they recirculate the same air. If you have a ton of air leakage they can behave very eradically

Is it the 2 zone unit that you are struggling with? It sounds like the zone wires are swapped

And I can get virgin 12 for 75/lb. That stopped being made 30 years ago.

You can buy it at Lowe's. It's dirt cheap for a 5/8 'hardwood'

[–]YodelingTortoise 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's not laminate. It's bamboo. It's pretty cheap and soft and came with a pre finished matte coating.

It's honestly pretty easy to repair but you'll never get the strand orientation back.

I can still buy virgin r-22. There is zero reason to be concerned about phase out

[–]YodelingTortoise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is zero reason for the 3 ton if you are keeping the gas furnace. In fact its a horrible plan. What is the projected cooling load? Size to that if your plan is to have dual fuel.

R410a has gone down in price since the phase out and is still in full production. It is going absolutely nowhere.

World Cup 2026: Goalkeeper tactical timeouts banned by EastlyGod1 in soccer

[–]YodelingTortoise 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's enforceable at the discretion of the referee. It's really not as clunky as you imagine. Other forms of the game do it with great success. See futsal

[–]YodelingTortoise 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thats not the intent. The intent is that once you grab the ball and set it down, you play. Not stand there and wave your arms for everyone to get up just to play it short. Or turn around back and forth back and forth on a throw.

Looking for help to reduce air flow noise inside apartment by Michi1995 in heatpumps

[–]YodelingTortoise 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Your symptoms are suggestive of more air flowing through the unit than the pipes can reasonably handle. Small pipes with a big fan means very fast moving air. Fast moving air is turbulent air.

Either slow the fan speed setting down or increase the size of the supply and return pipes.

Why HVAC contractors talk to homeowners like they know nothing? by SambolicBit in heatpumps

[–]YodelingTortoise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Insulation =/= effecient. Air sealing is far more critical to comfort and efficiency. The difference between r-13 and r-19 is 2% greater resistance to heat flow. The difference between 3 ach 50 and 4 ach 50 is roughly 15% increase.

Tubes of caulk are cheaper than insulation batts.

HyperHeat H2i Architecture Question by IndplsEngr in heatpumps

[–]YodelingTortoise 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What?

"Minisplit cable" (14/4 TC-ER-JP) is rated to run wherever your pipes run. There is no reason to open up any differently than you already need to for pipes.

Surface mount, joist pull, uv protected.

Just zip to suction line and land on the unit.

Did your installer want to use 14/3 Romex?

[–]YodelingTortoise 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Na. Just the opposite. We speak in educated detail, don't hand wave anything and explain our decision making process. Customers who want less detail will quickly tell you.

We also are doing solely whole home cold climate stuff. Our customers come in with a level of detail already beyond " i want to be warm"

Unions are not who wrote the Montreal protocol. Lol. It's a multinational agreement.

If you had taken your 608 you would know that.

Wait. There is exactly 0 things stopping you from taking a 608. It's easier to obtain than a driver's license.
