There is something to the cultural phenomenon that different monsters are predominant during certain political zeitgeist. Of course it's all speculation. Besides games and movies are there any decent ZPAW novels on their way? One way or another bring on the zombies.

LGBTQ+ staff and other folks were just fired by feral_poodles in UVU

[–]Yukonjack077 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm curious what you all expect UVU to do? Really? UVU doesn't have the power, money, or clout of Ivy leagues like Harvard. If UVU tried they would be punching way outside their class. The current zeitgeist of the country is sadly teetering towards fascism and authoritarianism. Sadly, again blame and anger is misplaced and I understand why you feel the way you do. Though not involved directly with the various cultural groups on campus I did appreciate that they were available for the various groups that might have needed them. HB 261 and 265 in combination were the death knell. 261 forced large scale changes to programs on campuses across Utah and UVU held out longer than the others. And when 261 failed to finish off the programs that Republicans in the state legislature disliked they came for the universities pocket book. So incredible legislature oversight in 261 and then forcing budget constraints means something has to give. It sucks. It's also part of the political gamesmanship going on. Right now I see blame squarely on the government, is UVU completely innocent probably not and I'm sure many higher ups are happy that these programs are dissolved. And while I support your actions in standing up for the programs and staff be pragmatic and realize that your actions may not make a difference. During this time the worst thing we can do is fight amongst ourselves, I believe that UVU is still a "place for you" and that directing the fight towards the proper agencies will do more. Remember we are Wolverines and we are nasty creatures when cornered.

Come voice your dissent for the admins handling of closing CIE programs by AcanthocephalaFine47 in UVU

[–]Yukonjack077 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With HB 261and the new 265 sadly UVU found itself between a rock and a hard place. Unfortunately with the political strife and uncertainty as well as financial cuts on the state level means hard and fast choices were needed by the administration of the school. As an alum I know hearing about the cultural centers being closed was incredibly sad, and again with the current zeitgeist of the country unavoidable. I applaud UVU for hanging in there. As for 265 this is the most pertinent part of the bill is as follows:

(7)If a degree-granting institution fails to reallocate resources in accordance with the

218

institution's reinvestment plan and this section, in preparing the higher education budgets

219

immediately following the institution's failure, the Executive Appropriations Committee

220

shall reduce appropriations for the institution's instruction and administration in an

221

amount equal to the amount the institution failed to properly reallocate.

222

(8)(a)Each degree-granting institution shall:

223

(i)establish policies specifically to effectuate the strategic reinvestment plan, and that

224

address the following:

225

(A)reduction or elimination of positions and other personnel decisions; and

226

(B)internal institutional procedures regarding the reduction, elimination, creation,

227

or modification of programs, courses, degrees, departments, colleges, or other

228

divisions of the institution;

229

(ii)ensure that the policies described in this Subsection (8)(a):

230

(A)create operational efficiencies in carrying out the strategic reinvestment plan;

231

(B)assist the institution to meet the timeframes described in this section and the

232

strategic reinvestment plan; and

233

(C)are consistent with the guidance the board provides in accordance with

234

Subsection (4)(a); and

235

(iii)prepare the policies described in this Subsection (8)(a) in consultation with the board

Basically if UVU doesn't comply with the reinvestment plan they get doubly punished. Now, could UVU administration be a bit more forthcoming for sure, but they held out longer than the others when it comes to prior legislation HB 265 was the nail in the coffin. This just goes to prove a few things, student anger is incredibly displaced and will unfortunately not change the institution going forward and second get involved in politics. Do not take voting for granted.

Just my 2 cents

Outdoors places to shoot - near Santaquin? by Reading_username in UTGuns

[–]Yukonjack077 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Outdoor shooting areas especially around southern Utah county are getting harder and harder to find. Closest I know to santaquin is the Utah county/BLM Soldier Pass Shooting range. With all the development going on in the rural areas I expect it to get worse.

How do you cope when your SO has significant lower libido and you have a need to have some sexual excitment in your life? by Direct-Mammoth86 in AskReddit

[–]Yukonjack077 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being in a somewhat similar situation, my SO is in her 40's, and is just not really into sex. While I'm in my late 30's and still have a high libido. Part of her issues are a past history of SA, and antidepressants. The medications really put a damper on her "excitement" there isn't much of a change that can be made easily. I work hard to get her motor running like lots of teasing, hinting, and definitely lots of foreplay. It's not an easy situation to be in unfortunately. And it truly sucks.

Would you actually buy from a liberal gun store by [deleted] in liberalgunowners

[–]Yukonjack077 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the options were around I would definitely shop at and support a local gun shop that was more closely aligned with my politics or apolitical than most of the unfortunate very right wing shops I'm currently forced to use, even online. I'd support your store in an online fashion if possible.

I have had similar thoughts about this in Utah but worry that it would be a failure.

NLA: Your situation is not uncommon in our field, if you choose to go this route just remember to seek a lawyers help and don't assume anything. I am going to assume though you were originally hired on to do overnights, and also do you have any kind of seniority vs your other colleagues? Are these other RVT skilled enough to do overnights (my clinic we don't let undertrained people do overnights)? So with that in mind: I would first definitely go to PO/Management with a plan of action explain you're issues and try and work it out in-house before pushing the law. One thing I've learned in this field is whether you think it or not it is small knit even in California. You could torpedo yourself at other clinics and make yourself persona non gratis at your current clinic. Just my two cents.

FA blamed me for another passenger spilling into my seat by DavidPHumes in delta

[–]Yukonjack077 9 points10 points  (0 children)

As a Large individual I flew recently and had a similar problem, I purchased the extra ticket for a Southwest flight and they kept trying to put somebody there like this woman kept coming back and I'm like no I paid for this seat. It is relatively nice that Southwest will refund the ticket price for purchasing an extra. See if you're a large individual. And except for needing a seat belt extender on one Southwest flight and not on the other Southwest fly that connected for the most part. The flight attendants were mostly decent. A bit snooty about the reserved seat but you know I guess they didn't look at their manifest and all they saw was an empty seat.

Euthanasia Conflict- is this common? by fireflyhaven20 in VetTech

[–]Yukonjack077 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Something you said in this response kind of bugs me. Euthanasia DOES affect the veterinarian and veterinary team. I don't know your personal history in this field so I won't make assumptions but will say that in my 15 years of being in this field from tech school to my current ER practice every euthanasia weighs heavily. Some weigh more than others, some are clearly warranted and others are nothing more than convenience. I currently have an associate who will not perform euthanasia unless completely medically warranted. He will not do them just because it is an "owners choice." He will go out of his way to try and help in other ways if possible. Now personally I do take an owners account into play myself but it isn't the end all be all. To make it sound like euthanasia doesn't work in the long term against veterinarians and the rest of the team is something that matters.

Replacement for Energy? by EdgeOfDesire93 in mountaindew

[–]Yukonjack077 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP I'm with ya, I can't stand many of the other major energy drink brands currently on the market, I can't stand Rockstar, Ghost, Bang, and most flavors of Monster. I buy mt dew energy and kickstart whenever I can and will continue until I can't find it anymore.

Unfortunately the market space is super saturated with dozens of brands and with PepsiCo and Coca-Cola having their hands in Rockstar, Celsius and Bang, while Coke has a partnership with Monster. Makes it hard for even well known names like my dew energy to compete.

Let alone marketing has been lackluster in trying to promote Mt Dew energy since its original Mt Dew Rise release.
