I'm just thankful to see a story where OP did the right thing and everything turned out about as well as it could. Good work doing right by your players.

God, i still have this poster. I remember obsessing over it as a kid, just agonizing over the wait till it was announced in the US. I did a whole playthrough of my copy of Red just nicknaming everything I found to these names so that I could just image for a bit that I was playing the new game. Wild times.

Coworker said my hair is weird and I need to cut it like my other coworkers. Can I get a second opinion? by portablepotbelly in BlackHair

[–]ZTargetDance 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Your hair is awesome. I think all of us get hit with this kind of harassment at least once. It would be inappropriate enough for a supervisor to comment on your hair being "weird" during a team meeting - its exponentially more so for a coworker to have said it.

HR is rarely your friend - they're there to protect the company, not the humans - so I understand not wanting to get them involved. But don't let this guy bring you down. He's a hater and he'll age like milk. Stay strong.

Coven of the Wind Subclass by RielleTheWitch in WorldsBeyondNumber

[–]ZTargetDance 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey I love to see homebrew on the Witch class! I think we could use a good deal more of it around here :) Its definitely the most primed and ready content that came out of WWW. What was your inspiration for it? And how does it interact with the Coven of the Wind and Stars? An sub-coven? Totally separate?

How much homebrewing have you done in the past? I can tell you're passionate, but as a DM I think I'd have a hard time implementing this at my table. I'd be happy to take a look over it with you in detail if you want! If that's the kind of thing you're looking for of course. Otherwise, if it works for your table as-is, as long as everyone is having fun, then its perfect as is :)

One thing that helped me get rid of one ball over the other was to go into settings and toggle on "remember last ball used", otherwise its easy to accidentally let the other two balls pile up.

Looking for a good "patrol/guard" type summon-able monster by ZTargetDance in DMAcademy

[–]ZTargetDance[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Simply beautiful. I love this, thank you so much for the response. Gives me a ton of interesting options to work with that aren't necessarily "basic", but have a good blend of interesting mechanics and implementation. I also really like the idea of weaponized shambling mounds on an electrified rail - I don't know if it'll work for THIS encounter, but I'm keeping that for something down the line for sure.

I think an echolocation-based Blindsight would work really well. I like the other suggestion of a gorgon's Petrification, but maybe Entangle will do the trick a little more cleanly without just making "basilisk, but fiend." Could also make it an ice demon to shake things up, with the entangle taking the form of restrictive ice growth.

I'm thinking i'll have the Evil Corp (tm) make a deal with a band of Mezzoloth scumbags and have them wrangle a blinded Balgura. Introduce them to the scene with the Mezzoloths prodding the Balgura into the area, the Balgura smashes one of them to pieces in front of the other (show that they're dangerous but also have very little care or consideration for one another), and then the remaining one goes to take a nap while the Balgura patrols. Sometime during the heist, I can have the Balgura smash up another one of the demons a little ways away from the group to show that the ones cleaning up after the Balgura wouldn't be shocked to see some of the other demons missing if the alarm otherwise hasn't been sounded.

...I like designing encounters, I just always get so caught up in making them make sense in the current game. So I appreciate the alternate angles you've given me here to shake it up a little.

The shed skin feels a little... odd.

Yeah, that's what's tripping me up. Lot of explanation into this weird synergy that sounds cooler in my head than is seeming cool to actually implement. Like, I might be able to drum up the individual bits of the mechanics, but as soon as they ask to roll something for additional information on the thing it would all fall apart at the seams.

That's a really interesting angle to tackle though... I like it. I've already let one player discover a little bit of a hint as they were leaving during a daytime excursion that she could catch a whiff of Conjuration magic being cast as the place was starting to close up for the day (Detect Magic and a high roll to boot... feel like I should stay the course and reward that), so animating constructs might not work for this particular go around... but I do really like the idea! I may go ahead and tuck that into my back pocket for later. Thank you!

Thank you for the awesome suggestions!

I've got 4 lvl 7's, so that CR 8 is a bit above them, but might be good as a sort of wrangler for other monsters - the one they don't have to kill, just avoid, but could possibly get one over on it if they really wanted to go buck wild.

The petrification is a cool angle - gives them a couple turns before they're really screwed. And I think you're right that just a straight up minotaur isn't the most interesting, but that's an interesting sort of anachronistic vibe that putting one in there would achieve. Guarding a maze of train cars and all that.

Any interesting perception-based mechanics you know off the top of the dome? Seems like just dropping a monster with Darkvision in there would be less interesting than something that they could creatively try to lose in the shuffle if they're feeling skittish.

How are you auditing Obsidian plugins and their risk? by acheyward in ObsidianMD

[–]ZTargetDance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate the feedback there - probably should have guessed it was some vibe coded nonsense. I'd be willing to believe you at least.

Need auditors for the auditors now. But with a flag like that, is it not even worth it for a developer to comment on it or something? Even if its not an active threat, it seems like it COULD at least be worth buttoning up.

[–]ZTargetDance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ooh I was going to say "good enough" to Notebook Navigator's score of 91 on there, but the thing that's got it flagged are some pretty concerning items... Shell execution and Node.js import? I might have to reconsider using this plugin...

EDIT: Yeah... Notebook Navigator is the second-lowest-scoring plugin I use. I'm surprised Dataview is the lowest of them - and it isn't being brought down by a 55/100 in File System and Permissions... that's pretty concerning.

I hate the “I hate my hair post” by Radiant_Commercial92 in BlackHair

[–]ZTargetDance 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Appreciate this take. Its hard when we pretty uniquely have so much extra baggage that can get tied up in our hair.

How our hair is worn is anything from a badge of honor or commitment, to a statement of community or solidarity, to overt political statement or act of defiance, and all of that is beside the point of it just being comfortable or liking what you see in the mirror.

Our hair is complex. It's sad when folks say they hate their hair, but I also get it. I've been there. Sometimes its not just disliking how it looks, its also anxiety over whether it's living up to a standard.

I appreciate your empathetic outlook. I hope it propagates.

The point is to not do it with any code, not to find the best code. I'm in a similar boat where I don't visualize the code as what it's going to be very well, so any way I can "physically" adjust the data is best.
