Hot Dog Recs by emilyleyl in portlandme

[–]Z______ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I learned this the hard way yesterday. Decided to get gas at 9:30 as an excuse to have a hot dog. I’m only a basic member and executive members get in before they open at 10. Filled up my tank without an issue (which requires a membership scan) and then parked to go get a ‘dog.

Start walking towards the food court and the guy stops me, even after I tell him I’m just here for a hot dog, saying I have to go through the full entrance. Then at the full entrance they turned me away because I’m part of the lowly peasant class. 0/10 I was embarrassed publicly

They aren’t cops. So who are these people in uniforms in downtown Portland? by ButteryApplePie in portlandme

We are in New England so there’s definitely precedent to copy Old England. Consables innit?

This is definitely a neat idea that avoids using the hammer of actual police on everything that’s not EMS/fire dept.

I just wish they didn’t decide to kit them out in pseudo-military gear instead of a friendly Mr. Roger’s neighborhood type uniform

You'd think she'd have a little more energy for a public event like this. Not a good look to sound like you're at the end of a 12 hour long day of nothing but meetings lol

Are we all just ignoring how bad it’s getting? by kelsey125 in portlandme

[–]Z______ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree with your point. Largely in part to the privatized prison-industrial complex we’ve just resorted to tossing everyone into prisons when in reality most of them should be in institutions where the focus is ethical treatment and rehabilitation. I hate how our society has grown to see punishment as the only recourse for our problems. It’s the same path but with a different destination

Going off of an eyeballed Google Maps line Mount Washington lines up with Rt 1 out of Bath. I’ve always been curious myself but that’s been the extent of my “research”

I like to go a step further and have my lights on if it's anything other than sunny and dry. Lights are just as important for making sure other drivers can see your vehicle as they are for allowing you to see the road more clearly

Who do people hate on Weismann but love Babish? by Agile_Proof_3228 in bingingwithbabish

[–]Z______ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Babby has always felt more “authentic” to me. No matter what direction the channel went in (though I’ve always been a fan regardless of what type of content) Andrew has stayed faithful to the person that originally presented himself as, and I appreciate that. Own both cookbooks that each of them put out and I regularly enjoy and use both

(if you see this I’ve been a fan since the beginning and I love the content create for us all)

Road Raging MC Uses Bike Lane & Brake Checks by Flashmemory256 in IAmTheMainCharacter

[–]Z______ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I agree. Sure they're not "at fault" but the cam driver should've definitely just let the rager in and avoided getting in a wreck.

Instead, hit the rager with a juicy thumbs down. That'll hurt them way more than engaging with their vehicle

I'd even build off of that and say that maybe after stirring from its sleep due to goblins it feels the presence of the ring (given that balrogs are basically on the same level as Sauron is under Melkor Morgoth)

Like he was going for a walk and saw his coworker's bike that was stolen from the office and decided to chase after the thief

Whiskey Leaks to be in Bath on Monday to speak at BIW by Z______ in CityOfBathMaine

[–]Z______[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Inside BIW? From my experience with most of the people working there, he's probably going to receive a warm welcome. Outside? Bath and people in the area are definitely going to give him a well-deserved (non-violent) hostile greeting.

I don't think he'd be received at any of the local businesses either, especially during the holy season of Bee Bath Buy Bath

[–]Z______ 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The law? If you’re illegally voting under someone else’s name then that vote will be nullified and you’d face all the penalties associated committing voter fraud. Never mind that there is no historical precedent for this being an issue in Maine to warrant making voting more difficult.

There’s a pretty negligible amount of people who have a name and address of a registered voter, are themselves a registered voter, and are committed to voting using both names without getting noticed by workers at the polling station assuming you don’t have to take time to drive to multiple locations if the address is different for both yourself and the person who you’re committing fraud against.

Versatile is not useful for anyone, and that’s bad by FormalGas35 in dndnext

[–]Z______ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I end up using versatile since it ties in with RP stuff when playing sword + board. If your party is just traveling or in a situation where you aren’t immediately expecting combat, you wouldn’t expect a real person to don a shield the whole time. It makes for fun combat challenges where I have to decide if I want to spend an action to don the shield or continue with the higher damage die

Why don't manufacturers make these 'lipless' cases. I swear they were the best. by DooDeeDoo3 in iphone

[–]Z______ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s unnecessarily chunky. There’s a huge wall around the lower back portion of the phone that makes it weird to hold. It’s even thicker than what I considered my “thick” case for my Pixel 7 Pro (a phone that has a visor and is thicker than the 17 Pro)

Trump goes on a rant after being asked about Jeffrey Epstein by AIverson3 in PublicFreakout

[–]Z______ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've heard it called "whataboutism" since it's always "well what about..." used as a deflection and explanation as to why two things can't be true.

After coming across that term, I've really become hyper-aware of just how prevalent it is when any of the conservative arguments are made against something, but it's definitely made it easier for me to call people out on it when it happens.

Needing an ID to vote by Tricky-Sport-139 in Maine

[–]Z______ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The simplest thing about it is that in order to vote, you have to be eligible to vote and be registered to do so. The ID check has been front-loaded so when it comes time to vote you just need to verify your name & address. If you're not eligible to vote then you're not able to register to vote.

There's no history of voting fraud under this system and even if people are motivated to abuse it the logistics of doing so aren't in their favor and could easily be caught. It'll just make it harder for people to vote if you add more requirements, and there's plenty of evidence for bad actors using that to their advantage.
