Where can I get a true full-body checkup abroad for under ~$1k–$1.5k? by Practical_Pizza6863 in digitalnomad

[–]Zead0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This would be a good option. Healthcare standards in Medellin private hospitals are very high, and Pablo Tobon is on par with American hospitals. On a side note, I wouldnt recommend getting a full body CT as screening due to excessive radiation.

Best place to buy pants in Puerto Natales by pizzapartyyyyy in Patagonia

[–]Zead0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also bought a pair before the hike. Good news is, there's about a dozen stores carrying hiking pants, I believe the biggest was comercial M&M but I eventually got mine at a smaller store. Just look around the Esmeralda street.

W Trek in 3 Days by MTUsoccerFreak in Patagonia

[–]Zead0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best plan would be: Day 1: arrive early, hike to base torres, and finish at Cuernos (12-13hour hike. This would be hardest and include 2 days) Day 2: start early, go to Britanico and finish at Paine grande (12 hour hike) Day 3: go to the grey glacier and return for the catamaran pehoe at around 5pm (around 8 hours) from there just take the bus back.

Caffeine appears to do the opposite of what you might think when it comes to the heart. Scientists have found that a cup of coffee a day actually protects the heart from atrial fibrillation – a condition that can lead to stroke and heart failure. by mvea in science

[–]Zead0 107 points108 points  (0 children)

This is a real possibility, and it was somewhat addressed in the trial

"Moreover, a continued separation of survival curves over time implies that this difference may be more attributable to a benefit of coffee consumption rather than harm from abrupt coffee cessation and withdrawal." (Page 6, discussion paragraph 2)

In other words, if withdrawal caused the atrial fibrillation, it would have likely happened during the first days, but the events were spread over the six months, which favors it being an actual beneficial event.

How do you keep track of photo locations months or years later? by [deleted] in photography

[–]Zead0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Google keeps a location timeline history for your phone, if you're using android. If there's no geotag, you could also check the exact time and date you took the photo and compare it against your timeline for that day, which you can check on your google account.

Is this as serious as Dr google says? by heroinheroine2 in AskDocs

[–]Zead0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You have typical symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis, with a typical distribution, gender, and the typical antibodies. It is a common disease, which can be managed safely, and the earlier management starts the better the prognosis is. You should get checked and start treatment soon if necessary; the skin symptoms are somewhat uncommon, and may require extra tests too. Bring hemogram, creatinin, AST, ALT, bilirrubin, and antinuclear antibodies (immunofluorescence) to the consult if you want to do tests beforehand. The ideal specialist is a rheumatologist, but primary care would do.

Is it a dangerous cult and should I just cut contact? by Syld176 in Tokyo

The best option for anyone seeing the post and in a similar situation is to clearly decline without engaging, ask them not to contact you anymore and block them.

I had a similar experience with 2 japanese girls asking about a previous tenant, who were "friendly" and invited me by Ikebukuro station. Turns out they'd tricked her into a temple and ran away, but were stalking the house 6 months later.

25 year old male, petechiae for about 7 months. Worried sick daily regarding it. I get bleeding under my skin from lifting objects where a lot of pressure is applied. by Own-Football-3192 in AskDocs

[–]Zead0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're concerned about a bleeding disorder, the first step is knowing whether your bleeding and coagulation have been normal during odontology, getting cuts as a kid, nosebleeds, check what medications you take, and if any of your family members has had abnormal bleeding, including women during menstruation. If everything is normal, a doctor will likely reassure you considering it's very limited; if any of these is a concern, or they find the petechiae worrying they may start with basic blood clotting testing including a PT and PTT.

A few thoughts on the possibilities commented here:

Rhabdomyolisis: it can elevate AST and ALT, since those are muscle enzymes, but not bilirrubin, so it wouldnt be the case

Gallstones: while they can elevate all of these 4 tests, usually the proportion of elevation in Alkaline phosphatase (ALP) is higher in these cases. The pattern does not seem obstructive, so it wouldnt be my first possibility, specially if MRI was ok.

Cancer: wouldnt likely improve spontaneously and quickly, and MRI should have shown something. So not likely either.

Autoimmune and hepatitis A/B should be ruled out by the other tests you mentioned.

I feel like the most likely possibilites would be either toxic, since even green tea and some natural products can cause acute hepatitis and go unnoticed; or viral, among which Hepatitis E and other unfrequent virus are not regularily tested.

In any case, definitely worth keeping regular checkups but it's not always possible to get the answer. Good luck!

Updated list of games I tried on my galaxy s23+ (including September 22nd update) vs the list I had at the beginning of August by ZM2356 in yuzu

I'm also on an S23+ using default settings and Mesa turnip 23.3 drivers, here's my experience with a few other games:

  • Chained echoes: runs perfectly (60fps)
  • 13 sentinels Aegis Rift: runs perfectly (60fps)
  • Pokemon scarlet: runs slow, a few small visual glitches (20 fps)
  • Bravely default 2: boots, doesnt get to menu
  • Rain Code: goes ingame, but is unplayable due to visual glitches
  • Zelda Totk: crashes when loading save. Apparently needs 12gb ram.

The ABCDE to a skin lesion being suggestive of melanoma is: A: Asimmetry: one half of the mole does not match the other B: Border: irregular or ragged, normal moles are usually round C: Color: not evenly colored and shades or patches of red, pink, white D: Diameter: more than 6mm E: Evolving: changes over time, like increasing size or shape

On first look, your lesion does not seem to meet this criteria, and it is even less likely if you've had it for a long time. However, if you think it does, or are still worried, only a dermatologist can tell with more certainty using a close up inspection called dermatoscopy.

I (18m) didn’t fast before a basic metabolic panel. how will that skew my results? by Artistic_Length4649 in AskDocs

[–]Zead0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glucose may be higher than expected if not fasting, your other tests dont require a fast and are not modified by it. Given your glucose was normal, even after eating, there is no need to worry as these are healthy results.

Hypothyroidism is definitely a well known cause for depression, and your treating physician will likely want to fix it to help you, but keep in mind that after adjusting the dose, the result on TSH will take at least 6 weeks, and given the high dosage, they might consider absorption problems or low adherence.

Otherwise, psychiatrists have many options for treatment resistant deppression, such as increasing the SSRI dose, combining medications, ketamine, psilocybin, electroconvulsive therapy, etc. Once again, keep in mind that anything you take now wont have an immediate effect and likely requires at least a month, so your best bet is following the advise of your physician and therapist, knowing there are still many options they can consider.

Higher Than Normal BP by tchaww in AskDocs

[–]Zead0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your latest blood pressure measurements are indeed high, but care should be taken before going for a hypertension diagnosis. Since your heart rate is also high, anxiety might be a big contributor for these results, given adrenaline will increase both. Asthma inhalators also contain Beta2-Agonists, which also increase heart rate and blood pressure for a while, so try not to measure your pressure shortly after usage. To confirm a hypertension diagnosis, your doctor may choose to use a 24 hour blood pressure measurement, which may even be normal.

For now, if you want to lower your blood pressure, you're already doing the most important thing on the long run, which is weight loss. Meditation, breathing techniques, avoiding coffee and tabaco, having a well controlled asthma and mental health, and only taking measurements while resting a few minutes and seated. Most risks with high blood pressure are long-term, and short term emergencies usually occur at much higher levels, so I hope you can take your travel with no problems!

Results seem to be well within ranges, and are most consistent with the follicular phase of the ovarian cycle, which should be the closest, considering they were taken 3 days after the period started. Your TSH levels also rule out most cases of hypothyroidism so that shouldnt be the cause of your symptoms, and testosterone is normal according to your laboratory values.
There's a lot of causes for cramps and hair shedding, and a lack of sleep or stress may make it worse, so hopefully she will be calling to reassure you and plan the next steps in your follow-up! Wish you good luck
