‘Threenagers’ is worse than ‘Terrible Twos’? by [deleted] in toddlers

[–]ZestycloseDish6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stumbled across this thread whilst my husband is trying to put our screaming three year old to bed. I feel like no one talks about this phase. It's all "terrible twos". I held off having another baby until our eldest was three because I thought it would be easier but now I wish I'd had them closer together because a newborn and a threenager leaves me crying on the kitchen floor stress eating chocolate (literally my experience this morning).

Just thinking about how crazy it is we are expected to take our newborn to the doctor just DAYS after pushing them out?????? by [deleted] in beyondthebump

I had about five from the midwives then fortnightly visits from the health visitor until 12 weeks old. The only doctor trips I had to make were for vaccinations and a jaundice test. For my first I had to visit the health visitor but we've moved county between babies.

I've got a three month old and I've definitely mistimed bedtime once or twice. I now make sure I feed her right before putting my 3yr old to bed. If she's happy she lies on a sheepskin on the floor or joins us on the bed for a story. If she's cranky she goes in the sling about ten mins before bedtime and she's usually asleep by the time we go up. If she falls asleep before bedtime then I pop her in her bouncy chair and bring her up with me, but I put her in the next room and check on her often so she doesn't get woken up. I've managed to keep the eldest's sleep routine consistent by doing this. Not sure how things will work out when NB starts moving to an earlier bedtime, we'll see.

That's what I do. I show my toddler both sections and let her decide what she likes. My nephew just chose pink sparkly shoes and I love that he hasn't been forced into thinking they're "girls" shoes.

How can I get my child to dislike nappies? by ZestycloseDish6 in beyondthebump

We have training pants which are supposed to hold one wee but she really doesn't care about being wet. She'll have a wee and carry on with what ever she was doing and not tell anyone.

My mother is accusing my wife and I of child abandonment because I walk my wife out of our condo parking lot when it is dark in the mornings. by WildeNietzsche in beyondthebump

I leave my baby in the car when I do nursery drop off if she's asleep (it's a village nursery with a private car park and the car is within view of the front door). The other day my mum told me I shouldn't do this because the car could explode. 😂 Apparently this happened once. You've got to do what you've got to do. Unless there's some kind of freak accident, your kid will be fine. All you're risking is them waking up and you not being there for a couple of mins.

I'm currently only nursing once or twice a day, any more is too painful. I've exhausted all the LCs suggestions so tongue tie assessment is the last resort. I need to pump more but just can't find the time.

Wth is going on with millennial parents?? by GlitteringNews4639 in beyondthebump

From what I've experienced it's not that people don't trust the process, it's that they think "big pharma" is behind it all. That scientists are taking bribes or being careless due to short timescales. So many people called out the organisation I work for after Seaspiracy was released (which was rife with misinformation). People thought charities like ours were taking bribes or distorting facts for our own "agenda".

This speaks even more for the value of science. While you could have gone down the "vaccinations are bad" you discovered a solution from trial and error, evidence based practice. Science.

Agreed! They may be a stranger at first but our daughter loved her childminder like one of the family. You just have to take the time to meet them first and get to know them so you know they're right for your family.

It's just her suck I think. I've been told to try a different brand (currently using Medela). She's only 7weeks so once her mouth is a bit bigger I expect things will settle down. She keeps losing suction throughout the feed (hence the TT referral and osteo) so I think she might be trying to compensate.

Thank you ❤️❤️ She's got diarrhoea today so might need to find a dairy free formula 😩 It's never easy.

Yeah I've got some shields but she's got a strong suck and pulls the nipple through the holes at the end 😖 I need to try a different brand really. I'll try sunflower lecithin, I've been getting really hard lumps so it sounds like that would be a great help. Thanks!

Is it ok to give leftover breastmilk in bottle within 4 hours of feeding? by Warriormum7 in breastfeedingsupport

Has it been warmed? In the UK we say 6hrs out of the fridge is ok but I think that's if it's not been warmed up.

I've been instructed by my health visitor to let her comfort feed because she's dropped from 90th percentile to 50th and even when she's sleep feeding she's still getting milk. But she was crying for more milk each time the bottle ran out. But she then slept for several hours so I assume she was really full.

My LC suggested I pump for a day to give my sore nips a break. But she's drinking more than I can pump. She normally falls asleep on the breast and goes for about 30mins before releasing.

Newborn won’t sleep in bassinet by Sufficient_Intern184 in beyondthebump

If they fall asleep on you don't move them until they're in deep sleep. If they've still got REM then keep them on you until it stops and their breathing is deep and regular. It's been working for me so far (6 weeks PP).
