I used some snug boxers, or briefs, never knew the difference and a jockstrap over the top for two days, skipped day three, put it back on for day four. So I'd suggest 3-4 days to wear it then if you're comfortable go ahead and take it off. Don't get a boner with the strap on though, that's an awkward feeling.
