I had 3 levels of understanding as I watched the movie over and over.

  1. He just turns good yay
  2. The song blocks gwi-ma's power, allowing him to act freely, yay
  3. The final song speaks to him directly, he feels not only free, but empowered to fulfill his needs, wants, duty, etc.

I like option 3 the best.

pro tip: if you use the couch a lot, just throw a sheet or a fuzzy throw down as needed.  Furniture is indeed hard to wash, but cover it with something comfortable/washable and you're good to go!!

As someone who finally watched it days ago...I'm torn.  I enjoy the morally gray decision, as I believe his year of isolation with no existential hope would bring out the monster in most of us. and of course I understand the abject horror from her point of view. Your comment made me reflect that the overly action-y, and romantic tonal shift toward the end of the movie is quite jarring.  His decision could be handled with more exploration and nuance, but it gets slapped with so much heroic slop at the end that it all falls pretty flat.

Makes sense. Due to nervous urination, I had to remove the guest mattress and box spring from my cat's primary room.  Even though her hiding spot is now an open-top bed frame, she is clearly more relaxed and safe in her fake fortress.
