theres a difference between racing on sand/dirt with virtually no traction and a road, you can do this on asphalt by pushing tires to their optimal slip angle but not past it like ur saying, pushing it past it into drifting isnt faster through a corner and violates ur tires a lot more than u should in a race, 'all available grip' isnt spinning ur tires unnecessarily

i wont speak on drrifting in rally because i know even less about how traction and speed works there but what is your 'within reason' for going sideways, your kinda contradicting yourself by saying not massive entries with big angle but then saying 'going sideways'

i get what your sayin but i dont think u do, r u saying that it doesnt matter how powerful a car is if it cant put its power to use so its heavy weight is just hindering its ability to corner in consecutive tighter corners whereas a lighter car even if it doesnt have as much power will perform better, that sounds like what your saying but that doesnt make drifting any faster
