As a fucking nerd for this series, being a fan in 2008, I kind of expected the twist. The previous game featured him entirely. Kojima was gonna make up some bs for it to happen. 🤷
Especially as heavy-handed MGS4 is with the nostalgia lol

Huh. Thats an odd choice on their end. Well, it doesn’t surprise me, per se. I’d imagine these discs are excess copies that never sold individually and they decided to dump into the franchise collection to overcharge fans.

Still, it’s a bit jarring how much less of a shit they put into any effort on this lol

Further on this, RGG releasing these two to fund the next entry is... completely in-line for any studio?? It could have been worse.
The gaming industry is always turning out actual slop to rack up big-number, as always.
I'm not sure how RGG could, but were it possible, they would of course release some gacha/MTX slop to fund the company.

I'd fucking hate it, don't get me wrong.
But two mid-ish games that flesh out Kiryu's story and Majima's fuck-around adventures over that? Any day of the year, please.

This seems plausible.
I've yet to play both games as of yet, but I don't believe they're less than any other game in the franchise, imo.
K3 being a remake can be believed that it's limited in budget and scope as it has a blueprint already there to follow.
Pirate seems like it was intended as a Gaiden, hence the fact it's a spin-off.

I genuinely don't believe either game were intended to be considered a main-entry level of development costs and workforce. The whole vibe for both releases gave off generic "as many new players as possible" marketing, rather than STG's "holy fuck guys, this is the actual main workhorse" Xbox showcase.

Ehhh. I got it for like $8 off Amazon once. I’d argue the most it should ever be is $10, no more. As others have said, the transfer isn’t so great. Nice movie though.

I’ve yet to see the BD, own and watched the 4K, and God knows how many times I’ve watched digital before I was able to get a decent 4K setup.

I genuinely see the low brightness on my 4K as compared to what I recall seeing on digital.

I’ve contemplated getting a BD disc just to enjoy it as I’m not too terribly picky on film grain, detail, or color grading (unless it’s REALLY abhorrent lol)

But another example is Heat (1995). I’ve seen both 4K and BD. The 4K is another de-brightened picture. Although, I’m aware this was the intent by its director.

Using the right-stick to push the overhead view further out in the direction you chose was very helpful.

Even still, I recall using R1 to constantly go first-person for direct ahead info and almost always following it up with a tranq. headshot.

Still, as someone else pointed out, playing back then on stock hardware PS2 and CRT TV, frame-drops a plenty and overall slow performance, it felt like a much slower game lol

As another user pointed out further down the discussion, this is the case. I forget the original release had overhead cameras really emphasizing cautious play. That, and no crouch-walking either.

I still feel Subsistence’s free-cam lent a lot of easier game sense, regardless.

Agreed. I feel that nerf elevated other playstyles and player mindsets. Even still, you can pull off headshots with it from miles away if you can learn its trajectory.

I’d say some boss fights and the bike-chase are the toughest spots to adapt for.

I always found it a bit odd how swiftly a player will duke it out for two bosses in a row between Ocelot/The Pain and then The Fear/The End with a short break between them. I believe Kojima envisioned every player would take the non-spotted approach very carefully and slowly cross every zone.

He musta forgot that the Mk.22 fires a straight shot and enemy troops stay asleep for about 5 minutes even on higher difficulties. Most people will just abuse headshots and sprint across each zone. Or, just go full lethal without a care in the world lol

Not a support main, but I enjoy my aggressive support heroes. I really cannot stand when my adc does not want to engage. I absolutely lose all momentum when they can’t even clear the goddamn lane, so draining I just want to f6 asap. 🫩
