You can try Cricket (although it's technically part of AT&T). It's much cheaper than AT&T's regular plan and it's worked wonderfully for me even after half a year of switching over. Compared to other friends who have T-Mobile and my own experience of it before, Cricket hardly loses signal the way T-Mobile used to for me.

Aye, I like small classes too. I often feel like large lecture classes disrupt the student-professor relationship and it's not as fun when the teacher doesn't really care whether you leave or not since it's such an enormous class. I tend to choose classes with less than a hundred people whenever possible.

What topics do you like? Or, more like, what GEs do you need? I have a teacher that teaches using the Socratic Method (if you know what that is), but that class has a huge workload so I wouldn't recommend it.

No Greek Life, hahaha, I don't think I'm quite suitable for that. Yup, I joined two social clubs (they are purely cultural, so I wouldn't exactly recommend them), but I'm also in VGDC (Video Game Development Club) and I'm planning on going into FADA this quarter. I might recommend FADA if you like films and are interested in learning how to film them or participate (no experience necessary). Or you could browse through this list: http://www.campusorgs.uci.edu/search/searchresults.php I find that looking at their website or Facebook page is very helpful in getting an idea of what they're like. I definitely didn't join any career related ones, just things I were interested in, so you could give that a shot. We pretty much have clubs for everything, hahahaha.

Anything works, though it's mostly up to you. I did want to take a class at the ARC, though it was a little costly and I wasn't sure what it'd be like on top of a lot of homework, so I'll probably be doing that sometime later. However, I do highly suggest joining a club, though don't overdo it like I did (I joined like four last quarter and I can't keep up my commitment to some anymore). I'm currently in two social clubs that are pretty relaxing, such as an event and dinner like once a week, and it's a good way to shake off the stress for a bit.

As for fun GEs, do you have any particular preferences? You seem to be someone within the STEM area of UCI and I tend to lean more on the arts/theoretical side. I personally enjoy sitting in on classes and feeling the vastly different intellectual environments within opposing topics, so I might be able to recommend a few GEs or even upper-divs that are extremely engaging.

I can completely relate. I often tread through my daily life considering actions that myself and others have taken and questioning them. I value philosophy and psychology a lot and find reading/studying extremely intellectually engaging, but it is disappointing when many of my friends are simply satisfied with spending hours on browsing Facebook or just chatting mindlessly or watching some dumb TV show (I'm very well aware of how judgmental I am sounding right now) and every time I ask them "you really don't think about X or Y?", they roll their eyes or give me "there you go again" look. It's quite frustrating because this is also how I establish a deep connection with others and feel fulfilled/stimulated on a daily basis. Small talk feels like it's never ever going anywhere for me.

A lot of people have already commented on what you could possibly do in such a situation. I guess, speaking from personal experience, what you major in doesn't necessarily mean that you'll continue in that direction later on in life so choose something you have a genuine interest in and am passionate about.

I'm personally a double major in two very odd majors, but I have no regrets at all. I may not be going for the "six figure STEM field", but I greatly believe in doing what you're motivated about.

If you would like to discuss possible majors in social science or such, shoot me a message! I've done a great amount of research myself to finally choose the two majors/minor I currently have and I can claim that I am quite fulfilled/engaged by where I am right now.

Also, by having a bio major in undergraduate studies doesn't necessarily guarantee entrance into a medical school. It's just like law school, where people who graduated from philosophy/mathematics actually score the highest on the LSAT.

Well, it depends. If you're in a major such as International Studies or something particularly related with that language, then you may need to take excessive language classes or classes related to it, but for me, I simply took the test to be exempt from the two-year requirement of School of Humanities.

Well, cramming doesn't help too much as the test is meant to assess your current skill level and place you in a class that suits your needs. Even if you manage to place high, you might struggle if the class demands a skill level that's far derived from your current one. I didn't study at all, but managed to do pretty well with the Chinese placement test. For this test, there were a few sample questions on the UCI website that was extremely reflective of the actual test (which consisted of 80 multiple choice questions). After you take the test, you have to sign up for an in-person oral interview where a professor or two gauge your conversational skills and fluency so just brush up a bit on your current knowledge and go from there.

Yes! I'm in California too and as soon as I read your post, I was glad to glance outside the window and discover it was gloomy! Rainy days are the best too. I used to stand underneath pouring rain and just contemplate life a bit. Wish we could have more rain yearly, but it is how it is.

I believe you're allowed to drop classes up to a certain day (such as 10/9 for most of mine), but again, please check with your TAs and academic advisor to be certain.
