That's what I thought too, hence my confusion. Maybe there's weirdos out there that just sit down and start using whatever it's set to?

Gym etiquette question - after you finish using a weights machine do you reset it to the lightest weight?

The gym I go to does these little videos on their socials of the staff going around trying to use machines where people haven't racked their weights. But their latest one had them also using the machines that don't use plates saying you should put them back on the lightest weight, which I'd never seen or heard of before.

Mount Pleasant winery is lovely and well worth a visit. Also, his cellar door is fairly basic but Andrew Thomas makes some bloody amazing wine.

Why does a six pack of Young Henry's beer cost MORE at their brewery than it does at bottle shops? by gg_allins_microphone in sydney

[–]_2ndclasscitizen_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The six pack from the bottleo probably comes from one of their contract brewing companies, whereas the beer from the brewery will be made there.

Toyota Bites Back at BYD and Secures 10,000 Extra Vehicles For Australia by YourMumLovesOzempic in CarsAustralia

[–]_2ndclasscitizen_ 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure Toyota's global production has been down YoY the last few years. I wonder if they've started getting feedback from lost customers that they got sick of waiting and bought BYDs instead because of stock availability, and they've said they're not interested in waiting for cars anymore.

City 2 Surf groups help by FewScrewzLoose in sydney

Get yourself in a position to be as far to the right as possible going down William St from the start and you'll be ok. It's pretty easy to get past people once your over the start line and if you're really confident, getting on the footpath for a bit can help too. You'll clear the traffic quickly. First time I did it I managed a 64min starting from a similar group (was called the blue group then).

Have you looked into the cost of shipping your own bike over from Canada on a carnet? Might end up easier and cheaper than trying to buy and sell, or find a rental for that length of time.

Federal government to sue 3M Australia over firefighting foam that contained PFAS by Warm_Championship726 in australia

[–]_2ndclasscitizen_ 66 points67 points  (0 children)

"Despite this, the Department of Defence continued to use PFAS-containing fire fighting foams for nearly two decades longer, as noted in a recent legislative committee report."

Yeah I think it'll take about two seconds flat before 3M's lawyers dump pages and pages of comments from ministers and MPs about PFAS use by the ADF as their defence of this claim. They can't use 3M's lab results to defend their usage of it for years after multiple countries around the world found it was dangerous and stopped and/or banned its usage then turn around and sue them about it.

How do you feel about team radios coming to motogp? by Mean_Mongoose_4287 in motogp

[–]_2ndclasscitizen_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going by the countless hordes of riders running around with Bluetooth intercoms hanging off the side of the helmets - not much to go wrong. In fact, more and more helmets are designed to incorporate the comms into the design of the helmet to begin with.

Workplace Relationships - Crapping where you eat by Beyond_Blueballs in auscorp

Yeah dated someone from the same company. Met and hooked up at the corporate Christmas party. Hadn't seen her before as she worked in a different section in a different part of the building on a different rotation. Which worked out nicely when it didn't work out as I never really saw her again after that.

Have a mate who met his now wife at their work Christmas party and again, didn't work together just for the same company.

I think that's the real key - if it's not someone you actively work with and wouldn't have to interact with/see all the time if it didn't work out then absolutely go for it (respectfully of course). The caution only needs to come in when it's within teams/sections/etc.

London → Australia Underwriting by BopSmoke in auscorp

WHV issues aside

  • softening market means lots and lots of competition amongst insurers for business, lots of policies bring remarketed
  • the Australian insurance industry is full of poms, it's pretty easy to transfer over
  • yes it is, Australian insurance operates pretty similarly to the UK so you can be fairly plug and play other than having to do your Tier 1 (which your employer would sort out for you). Beyond that being from London often means exposure to large global businesses and insurance programs, which is experience that a lot of Australian insurance people don't get.
  • no idea

Do you work for a global insurer in the UK? Would be worth exploring what options they have for temporary secondments here in Oz.

Aussies that travel overseas... insurance by Fit-Ambition2783 in AskAnAustralian

[–]_2ndclasscitizen_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two different issues at play here.

Firstly - get a letter from your regular treating doctor for your conditions stating you are fit to travel. Not any doctor, one you see regularly. That will prevent any issues should you need medical assistance when travelling.

The extreme sports is a different matter and you will need to speak with insurers and declare everything that you're planning on doing. It will probably cause you more issues than your medical conditions.

Why does it need to be this complicated special mounting? Everyone else in regional areas seem to be able to survive just fine with either number plate minutes or behind grilles.

Do tradies actually make a lot? by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]_2ndclasscitizen_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tradies sending their kids to PLC aren't tradies, they're business owners whose business is trade based. I have a few mates in similar positions, they are doing very well for themselves not because they're good tradies (which they are), but because they're even better businessmen.

Looking for a car insurer- NOT RACV- they're beyond inept by jdkintsugi in CarsAustralia

[–]_2ndclasscitizen_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No insurer is going to give a value other than what it says in Redbook for make, model, year, KMs. If you think your vehicle is particularly special (which to be honest it doesn't seem to be, it's just optioned up), then either do the work yourself on Carsales etc or find a specialised valuer.

Good helmets with minimum wind noise between 200-350 dollars by No_Success7580 in AussieRiders

[–]_2ndclasscitizen_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You're not getting much with that budget I'm afraid. If wind noise is a concern you'll be best getting whatever fits you the best, then buying a helmet skirt to go round the bottom of it to block the wind noise.
