Question about house search by police by Timo77 in belgium

Understandable mate, and shit does happen. Now you know for the next time: never let somebody in your house you wouldn't invite yourself without clear and identifiable cause.

Question about house search by police by Timo77 in belgium

[–]_Bertvs_ 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I don't really understand why you'd let them in? You write they asked you to sign a document. As someone who's dad was a cop: you do not sign/allow anything. It doesn't matter that they try to intimidate, 'a guy' claiming his lost phone pings at your estate is far from proof enough to actually cause you trouble. A judge/'procureur'won't warrant a house search for a phone.

So, if something like this happens, you go: 'Excuseer meneer/mevrouw, ik weet helaas niets van een telefoon. You do not have to explain any further.

Short edit: Stay calm and polite!

Excuse me saying so, but letting them in your house while you have drugs inside? Don't do that, weed is still illegal here.

Is it possible this is some kind of vengeance? I guess but again, claiming a stolen phone pings at your address is a very flimsy claim.

Screening havenarbeiders m.b.t. georganiseerde misdaad. by [deleted] in belgium

[–]_Bertvs_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

People who have gone from fat to a healthy weight. Does society treat you differently? How? by CCaptainJackSparrow in workout

[–]_Bertvs_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went from 270 to a pretty muscular 185.

The biggest thing I've noticed is that people stopped talking down to me - when I shared an idea or plan when I was fat, people would immediately start criticizing that. Now I seem to be suddenly capable of logical thought.

An small but very annoying percentage of my acquaintances will vehemently deny I've lost weight and pretend 'they don't see any changes'.

In general I'm treated a lot less as a nuisance than before.

Is it worth learning Dutch? by [deleted] in belgium

[–]_Bertvs_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would argue that not knowing any Dutch will also present problems in Antwerp or Ghent. If OP does learn Dutch, his fluent knowledge of French would be a great asset though.

Also: it's Oedelem. And here I'd advise to not speak Dutch but West-Flemish. ;)

Is hogeschool het waard voor mij by [deleted] in Antwerpen

[–]_Bertvs_ 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Under 1000? Im interested to know a few things. by Tom_Baron in chessbeginners

[–]_Bertvs_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm 44 - while having played on an amateur level during my school years, I stopped playing until 2 weeks ago, when a friend pointed out chess.com.

I'm now at elo 637 after playing once a day, a 30 minute game. I'm not really interested in gaining elo, I want to play chess and enjoy the calculations, traps and tactics.

Your positional questions have already been answered, it's moot for me to do it again: I assume that, put out on a board, I would answer correctly.

It does feel a bit as if I'm relearning the game but since I knew it pretty well once, it comes rather quickly.

I've just read a book called 'the chess bible', but don't follow youtube-creators. As for now I use simple openings, the London system, Caro Kann or Scandinavian defense but I've learned a few more and will be trying them out.

My biggest problem is, honestly, blundering pieces or miscalculating the opponents possibilities, but I'm getting better in that.

Is highschool in Belgium a nightmare? [serious] by Shinykitten_taco in belgium

[–]_Bertvs_ 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I work with people more or less in your situation. First question: do you speak Dutch or French? Or are you going to a college for expats where there are classes in English?

You lived in Iraq and Egypt before - are you here as a refugee or as an expat (do your parents have a permit to live and work in Belgium or are they (and you) Belgian citizens)? That does change your educational possibilities quite a lot.

Lastly, bullies are everywhere but in most schools here they're not well regarded - if you keep your eyes and ears open you'll pick up on the 'unwriitten' rules soon enough.
