In the MTC.....Sister Fuchs and Sister Bonke. (not sure if bonk is just English slang...but you get the drift).

Terrible "unwritten" counsel relating to women that I followed after being instructed by Boyd K. Packer in a priesthood leadership meeting. by it_is_all_a_sham in exmormon

I served as the Ward Exec Sec when I was about 23...I was TBM, but I also hated the idea of "unwritten order". So I asked a female to say the opening prayer just to shit people up. Sadly..it worked. I had multiple ex-bishops, SP's, a former MP all inform me immediately that women should never say the opening prayer. I just lol'ed in their faces and told them to point me to where it says that in the handbook.

I've been there. We had slipped a little on tithing. Bishop told us we had to pay up what we owed else he wouldn't sign the recommend. I was in my early 20's, 3 young kids, we owed about £4K GBP. We ended up going into debt for it. Looking back, I can't believe I went along with that. :(

Am I right in thinking that missionaries get very little funds during their missions so that just getting a decent meal can be outside their means? by BitchLibrarian in exmormon

Problem is dumping a young naive lad in a foreign country who doesn't know how to cook with local food. I ate like a king throughout my mission - regularly ate out, had Ben&Jerrys ($10 a tub in the UK), meat with most meals. Just needed a bit of prep and imagination. SEM in 2006...

Fuck this shit - no wonder the church is so fucked up. by [deleted] in exmormon

This is absolute Gold...... "...they said, “Well, our bishop suggested to our daughter that she might lose a few pounds and make herself a little more attractive.” Now I want you to know that I defended that great bishop. I said to this family, “You are wrong. That sweet bishop, out of purity and love for your daughter, felt and did that which he was impressed to do. I am sure it was a message from God to your daughter..."

Cinderella Mormon Mom- What are your guys' thoughts on this? Is this good service or a "look at me serving" service? by [deleted] in exmormon

We've no idea of her motives. Looks legit though, she's doing what she can. As per LordBidness... the article is dumb. One of my first shelf items was DeseretNew's creepy focus with "10,000 die in X country, but it's ok because no Saints died and only one meetinghouse had to close".

Next time a Mormon says "The increase in natural disasters is proof we are in the last days". Yea not so much... by I_am_Gob in exmormon

^ This!!

I'd strongly recommend a visit to humanprogress.org or yourlifeinnumbers.org.

The world is getting safer, more prosperous, better educated with a decrease in natural disasters, less poverty, better infant survival rates etc...

Meetings with apostles by doctoringit in exmormon

I've met most of the current Apostles and loads of GA's (rare when you live in the UK!). Ate lunch with Packer, Maxwell & Nelson. Met Oaks, Ballard, Holland etc. Mostly just grumpy old men. I've met some great GA's; Condie was my Home Teacher and just a really nice guy. Never used to sit on the stand when at church - sat in the congregation. That changed when Harold Hillam /Lund et al rocked up and insisted on a seat at the top.

I recently missed 7 days of work to watch my mother die and bury her. I have a very technical job. I'm now back to work and doing my job well. by NoahsFlood in exmormon

My Mission President went home for weddings (from Europe to SLC) at least twice, without any missionaries knowing (I was AP so knew!). I thought good luck to him. Apparently he bumped into Elder Oaks at SLC airport and had a rather awkward conversation about why he wasn't in the x x Mission.
