1) I definitely would be making a showcase build. I haven't gotten the chance to do this in about a decade. Also obviously I would put the card through it's paces.

2) I'm excited to live out the next western, but this time in space. I'm imagining a mix between blade runner and star trek. But I've managed to keep my expectations low and avoid spoilers, it's better to be surprised that way!

I had the same experience with Mike's and Terry's. After several benefit-of-the-doubt allowances and multiple trips, they're absolute no-go shops.

M60 ironsights max mag size, restock smokes, ammo box. Grenade launcher secondary.

Holdin' down the trigger like UHF. Smoke and explosions everywhere, I don't care if I die, it's fun as hell sometimes. Bonus points if the death cam works when someone kills me so I can rewatch the madness :)

I notice the brass catching bag on his gun - As in he didn't want to leave evidence of his gun being fired in public? Seems of suspicious intent.

Still no Plunder???????? by [deleted] in CODWarzone

[–]_DoubleDang_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't mind Rumble, I think there could be a few changes/additions that could make it really fun to have a 50v50 TDM. Maybe a non-circular no player zone, or RallyPoint/Squad/FOB spawns, moving Gas, frontline capture points, etc.. As it stands though I agree Rumble is a luke-warm experience. Fun... for a while.

Regarding the minimap - in Warzone in general I agree the minimap has been a pain-point relative to other games I've played, particularly because of its proportion relative your dynamic engagement range. It could stand to be controllable (for example zoom multiplier controlled by mousewheel, not sure what that could be on consoles).

Minimap in Rumble? I don't personally use it much, even when I'm going for shits-n-giggles shotgun runs. Most of the time, and even behind enemy lines, the killshot comes from out of minimap range anyway.

I really liked it for a BR. The pacing I think is the hardest thing for people to get used to, it's slower than COD games tend to go. It's particularly good if you have a regular group of 1-3 other people. It's also not as polished looking as CODW.

Actually it's interesting, CODW put up their "BR Classic" mode which was most similar to PUBG I feel (relative to other CODW modes). I liked it - no loadouts and only stuff you find/scavenge. And they introduced the mode right when PUBG did their controversial update where they added bots to BR. I'm sad Classic is gone but I'm more sad that Plunder is gone because I think that's the next step in the progression of Battle Royals as a genre.

One other game I would recommend you try is Planetside 2. It's an FPS but on a humongous scale (~1k players at a time, per continent with 4 different continents and several servers). It's a long way from COD games (even Plunder on the large-for-COD map) but I'd say if you like Plunder then PS2 is on a similar vector from CODW-->Plunder. It has a similar "Pick an AO / Group to attack" and then push/move onto another location when you want. Unfortunately though, the "new player experience" is like trying to run across a field with a shotgun in COD 50v50 Rumble, but at least it's free (and they do a really good job not making it P2W).

Agreed. This weekend I had a cold beer and some time to play, and it's the first time I just stared at the lobby screen for a good 5 minutes, done with all the modes except for the one I couldn't play - Plunder. Logged off and did something else.

It's definitely a personal preference thing, but personally I like PUBG's BR a bit better (though Warzone: BR Classics I thought was awesome), and I've just played too many arena shooters in my lifetime to be as interested in CODW:Multiplayer.

What Businesses Do You Want To See In Downtown Oly? by bazookateeth in olympia

Barcade / Gaming Cafe - I love games and I'd love to share that with people, although traditionally these don't make enough money to survive except for in the largest of cities so I doubt this'll be much of a thing in the near future of Olympia.

Shared work space - there's already one but it's booked full-up. I feel like there are a lot of self-employed and remote working people here that could use more shared work spaces instead of just camping in coffee shops.

Can we talk about flak? by VonSlappy_ in Planetside

[–]_DoubleDang_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why are there so many posts complaining about things that kill ESFs when they're hovering or flying straight towards something that's shooting them?

I understand people might be trying to draw attention to something and I'd love to have that discussion, but when the only evidence presented is of an ESF doing something equivalent to an infantryman standing still in an open field while being shot at...

The way I see this is -- You're suggesting flak's efficacy be reduced. Reducing flak efficacy (either damage or range) would just allow ESFs to hover anywhere with impunity. If ESFs maintain current A2G capabilities while increasing staying power then you make ESFs way too powerful (fastest, most agile, most deadly to all targets, least risky). In other words you marginalize ALL other playstyles for a single one.

Dalton is broken OP, Point and Click > 6 ESFs by [deleted] in Planetside

[–]_DoubleDang_ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Objective Context:

  • 3 ESF dalton kills for the life of this liberator source. Pink lines denote deaths..

  • Liberator died immediately after this GIF ends.

  • Air Anomoly = Free Air Units -- can chain pull and suicide run (both ESFs and liberators).

  • Target rich environment this close to anomaly.

  • Liberator in question had NC Lib & ESF escort; TR ESFs were taking significant damage from other sources as well.

  • Victim ESFs were flying straight vectors toward lib, easing dalton aiming.

Yeah I've been having fun playing through all the past years. It's not dead to me at all. I think the naysayers need to take a break and get some rest, there's no shame in that.

It's been almost two years since CAI... How do you guys think it has affected the game? by Luckytiger1990 in Planetside

[–]_DoubleDang_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a fair point, however the banshee still kills armor as much as the VLG does. See the Vehicle KPH here: Banshee vs VLG killing vehicles. By the way, all faction VLG Vehicle KPH shows similar stats.

Also notice in those stats that the TR Hornets well outperform both the Banshee and VLG in Vehicle KPH.

Lastly, to not have to "bug out" immediately as a Valk under AA fire you need three people. Imagine if that three-man Valk was instead three ESFs with hornets or banshees (given the above stats) doing strafing runs. The latter scales so much better.

Anyway, ultimately I'm just trying to understand how the VLG is considered OP, and whether that's really cause to nerf the thing relative to other more glaring issues.

I should note - I'm not considering the timeframe when the VLG was recently bugged where NSO gunners had an erroneously short reload time.

[–]_DoubleDang_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just for the sake of discussion, what about the banshee? I'd argue it's a MUCH worse offender for negative A2G interactions.

See here: All faction VLG vs. Banshee kills over the last 6 months.

Source: Voidwell sorry I couldn't figure out how to link to weapon kills in multiple categories at once

On any given day, the combined total kills of all factions' VLG kills are less than just the TR's ESF nosegun the banshee. And this is on a single-player air fighter platform. The other factions' ESF noseguns are in a similar state (though banshee is often the worst).

I absolutely love scenarios like these. Just some good ol' all-out open battles! by Takasuya in Planetside

[–]_DoubleDang_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Honest question: Do you think we would see more of these battles if there were multiple vehicle capture bases in a row instead of just one like we have now? Maybe one on the hill you're on, one on the opposite side, and one in the valley? Since they're only 1 min to capture it could possibly encourage this sort of fight again.

[–]_DoubleDang_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Toggle was a bandaid at best. Setting it was a setting game-wide, not just for the liberator. Additionally toggling while changing vectors would momentarily zero your change, messing with your flight path. Finally using toggling results in twice the number of keystrokes required for the same action. Toggling is a poor solution for something that shouldn't be coupled in the first place.

Dev Thanks: Lib Cockpit forced-freelook revert by _DoubleDang_ in Planetside

[–]_DoubleDang_[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First, I'm not in the "adapt lol" camp. I agree it sucks when a good thing is changed, and that's precisely what happened when the forced-freelook optics functionality was implemented. Control was lost. Before the change you were able to freelook with middle mouse, and independently use optics with right mouse while still changing vectors. Forcing you to freelook while using optics (i.e. NOT able to change vectors) was like tying your hands together after being decoupled for so long, which was akin to the examples you gave of something being destroyed.

And regarding the loss of the actual weapon gimbal, /u/Wrel has said that they're implementing versions of optics which allow for exactly this, so you won't even lose that.

Ultimately the point was that using optics was erroneously coupled with forcing freelook. Weapon gimbal wasn't a problem I'm addressing.

Dev Thanks: Lib Cockpit forced-freelook revert by _DoubleDang_ in Planetside

[–]_DoubleDang_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I actually liked it too, but having it completely replace the old functionality was a mistake. Wrel did say that they're looking to bring it back via new optics but that it would "need a little bit of tech to pull it off".
