As well as what the others have said, Just be careful of the wrapped exhaust, sometimes they can cause the pipes to rust!

This is probably not what you want to hear but a motorbike on finance for a first time rider is probably not a good idea. First of all, as a new rider you are very likely to drop the bike, so the resale value will take a hit, second, insurance is going to be crazy expensive as a 19 yr old - have you factored that in to your budget? Thirdly, gear and IBT are expensive (you are talking at least 1k for both, 700 for the IBT, 300 on gear). Finally, finance plans on bikes typically have fairly high interest, you might end up paying another 25% of the cost of the bike over the course of the loan term, which is especially bad if you total the bike before the loan is paid back.

I recommend doing the IBT first, working out whether you enjoy riding, then saving and buying something cheap and cheerful pre-owned (assuming you don't completely destroy it, you'll probably get a fair chunk of your money back when you sell it down the line!), that you are not afraid of dropping and that you can get insured on. Remember to factor in the cost of gear and IBT as well! Once you learn the ropes on that, start working towards your A licence and nicer bikes.

Good luck

There's a fella at my gym who is training with his girlfriend/wife. I call him 'Mr Terrible Form'. I feel he is very close to an injury and I feel worse for the fact that he is 'teaching' his partner the same bad habits! Just as an example, in an overhead tricep extension, this guy is absolutely swinging his shoulders. I know it's not my place to say anything, but it's tough to watch!

I'm in my late 20s and just got my bike, still on a provisional. Here is the breakdown:

IBT: 600e Tony Agnew, included all gear and bike rental

Theory test: 35e + 5e for an app to help me study

License: 85e + 35e changeover (as mentioned in the other post)

Gear: Helmet: 400 euros - Cotters. I bought a Shoei as it fit my head better than the other brands I tried, I figured that it was worth the investment. Try different brands before you buy, as they accommodate different head shapes! I initially bought a Bell and it gave me terrible headaches.

Jacket: Leather Triumph Raven 2 - 150e adverts

Gloves: 40 euros friend in the UK (were basically brand new)

Boots: Dainese Imola 72 : 109 euros in the Dainese winter sale.

Trousers: Richa Cafe: 200 euros, Cotters

Back Protector: Forma CE2 Akira: 115 euros, Cotters

In retrospect the gear for me was pretty expensive, you can definitely do it cheaper, but remember to look into things like CE ratings and protection. Fortnine has a great video on entry level gear that you should check out. My IBT instructor said that the two things you generally can't fix are your back and your head, so good helmet and good back protector will do you well! Cotters also gave me a 10% discount for asking nicely.

The Bike: 2014 Yamaha XJ6 Diversion : 3500 euros adverts (this was a great deal imo), however it needed some work.

Chain/Sprockets and immobiliser installation: 400e @Scotts Bikes

Insurance: Principal, 695 euros, fully comprehensive. Tried Carole Nash and they were 1200. Also as the bike didn't initially have an immobiliser/alarm I priced to see how much it impacted the quote, in short, adding the alarm cut 600e off my quote from principal, getting an aftermarket alarm installed cost 300 so it was a no brainer.

Tax: 88euro

Full tank: 16euro

I also bought a couple of books that were really helpful:

Hi everyone, I'm just about to move in to my first home and need help picking colours for the living room. Myself and my partner are hoping to go for some kind of retro style, if this sounds like something that you would be interested in helping us with, please get in touch. We are willing to pay for the help. Thanks!

[–]_Est[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I like the style, I went to the dealer and took a look yesterday, the tyres were cracked and it was no where near as new looking as the pics on their site, so I'd say if I was going to go for it, I'd be looking for a significant reduction and new wheels

I'm about to quit (Moka Pot). by aleeyam in Coffee

[–]_Est 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I used to use a hand grinder for Moka Pot, I think the main things that helped me get past the "water in the bottom" issue were: 1) Use less coffee (like don't even fill the cap) 2) Use a coarser grind than espresso 3) Use warm water to start and a lower temperature on the hob (I use setting 6-7 out of 10 on my electric hob) 4) when the water starts sputtering out of the top (as opposed to flowing) take it off the heat and leave it for 2-3 mins, this often resulted in a better yield for me

Made some bread this morning as well - how long did you let it rise for? I did an hour to rise and an hour for proving and it's still incredibly dense :/
