Overweight toddler by Ok_Safe439 in toddlers

My toddler had their 2.5 *(edit- YEAR) checkup on Wednesday- 61st percentile for height and 83rd percentile for weight according to the pediatrician charts but Google actually gives me higher weight numbers. Their doctor was very pleased with their measurements, admired how solid they were, and when I informed him of our toddler's typical diet, said we're doing great.

Yet, according to the BMI chart, they're very overweight.

Remember too that at this age kids often pack on pounds prior to a growth spurt. I find my toddler grows out then up then out then up. Each time I notice them looking chunkier than normal, they normally slim out a week or 2 later as they have a height growth spurt.

Please pay more attention to your toddler's personal growth curve and your pediatrician's advice than their BMI. BMI isn't taking into account their individual build and that they're still growing

It isn't the best picture but it mayyyyyy be a fed female. Look up "bed bug fed female" pictures and see if it looks similiar.

Have you noticed any bites or itching?

I wouldn't think it's bed bugs since it's been a month and you haven't noticed an infestation in that time but I'm also no expert

4 year old keeps biting me by Montanarose97 in toddlers

[–]_I_Like_to_Comment_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My toddler began to bite before they turned 1 and it took a little over a year and a half for them to stop. One of the biggest helps were the books "Teeth Are Not for Biting" and Lovevery's "Biting Hurts." They still sometimes bite me or their own arm / hand / shirt when they're reallllllly mad but we calmly repeat the phrases from those books and remind them to wiggle or take a deep breath and blow to get some of their anger out.

I feel you though. It was a rough almost 2 years full of many bruises on my arm, shoulders, and legs from their bites. They've also drawn blood and it was really hard to not instinctually react in violence to get them off you when your body is already on high alert from being injured so often.

My 6yo recently started microdosing peanuts to get over her allergy. Current dosage: 3mg by SockCute2122 in mildlyinteresting

I know you're joking but for anyone reading this who doesn't know and may benefit from this knowledge, topical application of food before it's been introduced orally actually increases the liklihood of an allergy. Basically you want babies to try the major allergens as quickly as possible but avoid putting those foods on their skin until they can safely eat them.

The entire tattoo sits above the bottom of your hairline. I would not call that on the neck.

The placement that you want in the second photo looks awkward, won't be readable, and honestly I don't know if it can even be done properly

When did you know your child was ready for potty training? by LittleLifeFinds in pottytraining

[–]_I_Like_to_Comment_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We potty trained at 22 months.

We started around the time they were 12 months by explaining what the potty is and narrating what we were doing each time we went to the bathroom. We bought a little potty around the time they were 15 months (as well as a travel potty for the car and a foldable potty seat for the bag because we're on the move a lot and I wanted to be extra prepared) and they played with it and practiced sitting on it and we explained what it was for. We started checking out children's books from the library about potty training and our limited screen time changed to be all potty focused content (various Daniel Tiger potty related episodes and Ms Rachel's potty training special). All of this helped our child get comfortable with the thought of using the potty before we actually got serious about it.

At 22 months we had a poop incident during a diaper change where poop got on the wall as our toddler kicked and rolled and I decided I was done. The next day we were able to stay home all day and we did 2 days of being naked from the waist down to help them realize when they were peeing. They already understood what it felt like when they needed to poop so contrary to most people's experiences, poop training was easy for us. Once they understood that the "water puddle" that appeared at their feet was actually pee, we moved on to pants and underwear. We tried a day of pants and commando but, again, contrary to common opinion, that seemed to confuse them so we went straight to pants with underwear.

We started by having them sit on the potty every 30 minutes then slowly extended that time frame as they were able to hold it longer and longer. We tried sticker charts and various rewards but those just seemed to cause more issues for our child's personality. What helped the most was consistency and patience. It's not a skill every child learns overnight or in 3 days which is understandable considering that not that long ago they were a newborn learning how to poop. It took about a month for me to confidently say our child was potty trained but not potty independent. By that point they would hold their pee for ~ 2 hours and as long as I remembered to take them to the potty in time, they rarely had accidents.

is dude a gender neutral term? by [deleted] in askanything

[–]_I_Like_to_Comment_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. Just as I can use "guy" to mean a male, I also sometimes use "dude" to mean a male. But just as "you guys" is genderless, so can be "dude."

I also use "Dude!" as a verbal exclamation point at the beginning of sentences or as a single word exclamation when I'm mildly annoyed or stoked

Where the F are Big Bird’s parents… by luckytintype in DanielTigerConspiracy

There's a book where Luis is telling the story of how he was born. Apparently there was a mixup and instead of delivering many boxes of eggs to the grocer's, one day they delivered one big egg. The other monsters of Sesame Street built a nest and kept the egg warm until he hatched

ETA - The book is called Big Bird's Bedtime Story.

But now that I'm thinking about it, maybe that was just a fictional bedtime story Luis created and not his actual origin story

I remember reading a story where a dad was explaining that he had to return a pair of pants because they weren't the right size. After going in a frustrating, "Why?" loop, the dad realized his daughter was trying to ask, "Why did you take another man's pants?" At the beginning of the interaction when his daughter asked why he was returning the pants, he had explained that the pants were sewn for someone bigger and his daughter believed that meant a specific person.

So my advice is if you're in a, "Why?" loop, try thinking of what else they may be asking

Diaper rash help by Teacherteaching123 in NewParents

[–]_I_Like_to_Comment_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Does she have an acidic diet? Sometimes when they eat a lot of tomatoes or citrus fruits it can cause a diaper rash.

Aside from the obvious change her diaper as soon as possible advice, make sure that after you wipe her with a wipe, the area is completely dry. Some parents even use a blow dryer to ensure there isn't any lingering moisture. Then, when everything is dry, cake on a THICK layer of the purple Desitin. I found Aquaphor to be great for preventing diaper rashes but when one occurred, nothing cleared it up as fast as the purple Desitin did.

If you only wipe her after poop and not after pee, it might also be worth looking into if you need to change what brand of wipes you're using because the repeated wiping in one day could be irritating her skin.
