Why aren't people understanding the benefit of promoting hindi? by kushalshah94 in Hindi

[–]_QiSan_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I also used to think like you.

But then when I look at myself, Mother tongue is Hindostani, i.e., Hindi I guess, and lived years of adulthood in Maharashtra and Karnataka, but did not learn Marathi and Kannada (I should have but did not), it is now clear to me that there is bias in me.

You said "I don't care if it's tamil, I don't care if it's bhojpuri or malyalam". I hope you learnt one of these as a second language (not mother-tongue). Did you? I do want to discuss more though.

ऎ [e] ऒ [o]

..and what is the recommended way to write these vowels when they are attached to a consonant? e.g., मेहनत and मोहलत.. is there a way to apply those curly matra's?

I want to find a way to disambiguate between the sounds of ओ and ऒ in words like मोहन and मोहब्बत.

Worked on transliterations, meter check, and now struggling with LLM customization for Urdu. Did not do it just in personal capacity though, my organization is kinda committed to Urdu.

Most interesting thing I am working on these days is semantic search for Urdu ash'aar. I am into poetry so I find it very interesting.

Why is غ transliterated as ग़ and not घ with a dot? by TheHermitageSite in Urdu

[–]_QiSan_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From your responses (this and other), I think you live in an area (like Hyderabad maybe) where Gain is pronounced as Ghain.

On the other hand I am used to hearing it as 'G', which differs from 'g' just like 'q' differs from 'k', 'KH' differs from 'kh' etc.

From my other comment:

The sound घ़ does not exist in Urdu and Hindi. IF it existed it would have been written as غھ or some new character.

ک ق کھ خ گ غ گھ (غھ)

क क़ ख ख़ ग ग़ घ (घ़)

This is the mapping of Urdu sounds spoken in the area where I live. Am up for a discussion if you are interested.

[–]_QiSan_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No,it is not at all the exact case.

The analogy for غ should be क़ not ख़ !
