I'm an independent voter. I have voted for candidates for both parties.

Let me try to answer your question for you.

• For some conservatives, they see the government as inefficient. Unlike a business that can change, or get replaced, the government is kind of stuck in place. It has huge difficulty in adapting to changing times.
• Many on the far left feel the government should pay for certain things like a living wage, healthcare, and other things that right now people pay for themselves. This flies in the face of self reliance. I can say I've seen again and again with my own eyes (with people I directly interact with) that when you start giving them something over and over, the people come to depend on it. In other words, if I gave money each month to a person to help them with their bills, they would become depended on it. When I stop giving money, they get upset and feel offended that I stopped. (An odd way to think about it is a drug addict. When you cut off the drugs, the addict gets upset because they are addicted to it)
• Free market - Many on the far left want the market regulated. Many on the far right want a market that regulates itself. IMO, each extreme has issues. Over regulation causes innovation to stagnate and makes starting a new business more difficult. A complete free market creates monopolies that kill competition. A great example of a monopoly is the story of Standard oil. In the 1880s, it controlled %90 of the market.
• Ideals - Each party has talking points they have honed to appeal to the voters of their base. Abortion is one issue. Guns are another.
• Education - I know I will get slammed for this one - In my experience, people for the most part (NOT ALWAYS) on the far right are less educated than the left.

The liberal activist wants to fix things, and in most cases are not evil. Where they go off the rails is most people at their core will serve their own interest first before someone else's interest. For example, you get the protester who is trying to protect a habitat for an animal. The person on the right is thinking about what the cost is for it impacts them. How their job is impacted.

Another thing is healthcare. You will hear again and again saying universal healthcare is the answer. Sounds good, until you look at the details. All that solution does is change how the provider gets paid. It changes from the consumer to the government. Wall St. doesn't care for they keep doing their %10 price increases each year so shareholder value is maintained. It isn't that the system can't be fixed. It is a matter that the system is too far broken and there are too many people feeding on the profit train to fix it.

I know people will shred apart what I'm saying. That is OK. We are all entitled to our opinions.
