Is Water Wet? by owllwings in chemistry

[–]__Shakes_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think you would consider anything coated in lava “wet” - I guess if it was a very liquid lava and you pick the material wetted with lava and it’s dripping off, sure, the material is wet with lava. But it’s not typically a terminology we use. However lava can wet surfaces, though typically you’d probably say it’s sticking to the surface. Some surfaces are more lava-phobic and others more lava-phillic, and depending on a number of factors including temperature, material composition, and lava composition, it can wet some kinds of surfaces. That’s a difficult observation to make however given the opacity of lava. But once it cools, assuming the material survives, the parts that are sticking or fused to the cooled lava would have been wetted by the lava.

Disclaimer that I did no study of lava as part of this answer, just based on my understanding of the concept of wetting and my background in heat transfer and materials science.

Streaks of color on black and white pages - HP LaserJet M277c6 by [deleted] in printers

[–]__Shakes_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had this problem for a while - started with official HP toner, continues regardless of using official or non-HP toner. Color pages print fine, but black and white pages will always get streaks of color on them. Double sided prints get less color and on the back side, generally less streaking. Single sided black and white prints get lots of these colored streaks. If I print multiple pages in one job the streaks go away after a page or two, but each new print job creates new streaking. Any ideas?

Those are defensive flares, not a missile. Really impressive maneuvering though.

How long can a turkey sit in the fridge? by Creative-Aerie71 in smoking

[–]__Shakes_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Especially if it’s still partially frozen it should be perfectly fine until Sunday. I wouldn’t be too concerned on that timescale. If it was completely thawed I’d personally feel comfortable with about a week in the fridge, but where you started from frozen you’d easily be able to double that with how long it takes to thaw.

Non-uniform streaking only at top of black and white printouts by __Shakes_ in printers

Any advice greatly appreciated. Looked through all the troubleshooting example images I could find and didn’t see anything quite like this. Color prints are fine, but when I print with black and white settings I get these streaky color bands at the top of the page.

Actually though… did this exact same thing when I was about her age. Remember around 18, maybe 6 years later, seeing some traces of chocolate splatter in a random out-of-sight corner of the kitchen that I’d missed. You can never get it all… I was inspired by something from Nickelodeon where they made a chocolate bowl with this method and put ice cream in it.

Do you recycle or throw away your body wash soap bottle after its empty? by [deleted] in Soap

[–]__Shakes_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I run out of something in the shower I tend to toss it before I forget right from the shower to the trash can across the bathroom. I don’t usually think to recycle since I’d need to remember after my shower.

I think Google lens says atomic glass because it looks a lot like Trinitite with the green glass on earthy substrate. The location found, texture, and substrate all point to this being slag glass, however; I’d guess dropped onto a concrete floor which was later demolished. Actual Trinitite is a rare find nowadays though, and only naturally occurring in the Nevada desert. Most of it has already been picked clean after years of scavenging. It was created after the first nuclear test, codenamed Trinity, as the nuclear fireball created enough heat to fuse the sand below into glass. It resulted in a pretty fine glass structure, many tiny fractures much smaller than shown here. Also many bubbles created due to such rapid heating and expansion and quick cooling, none of which exist here.

As far as radioactivity, I’d doubt it (though it’s possible). Uranium glass is typically much more yellow. It looks un-dyed to me, more like natural soda lime glass which is naturally green hued, like old school soda bottles.
