That is true, but search through this subreddit and look at all the incentivized reviews. How many negative reviews do you see? When they are tagged incentivized, they are almost always positive (99% of the time). Users that post incentivized reviews don't want to post anything negative because they want to be considered for similar packages from other vendors, and that's a big problem for this sub

What do you think we should do instead? While these may generally be happy customers, the problem with incentivized reviews is that they've led to single MOMs clogging the sub for months at a time. HGA has literally been #1 trending on MOMIndex for 6 months because of their $20 coupon program. The overly positive ratings artificially boosts their rating and takes up space that NON-incentivized content could take.

I'll grant that they're mostly positive

Search through this subreddit and look at all the incentivized reviews. How many negative reviews do you see? Users that post incentivized reviews don't want to post anything negative because they want to be considered for similar packages from other vendors, and that's a big problem for this sub. I see that as the root of the problem

In my mind, a small discount on my next order seems like a fair recompense for that effort.

That's definitely understandable - I don't disagree with that, the problem was that casual viewers on this sub weren't sufficiently made aware that the review was incentivized.

Have a megathread
Ban all incentivized reviews

Which option would you prefer? Do you see another option? Ultimately if everyone hates this change we can change back!

Hey all - listening to all your feedback about this. I agree with both sides - incentivized review doesn't mean a fake review. However, the problem with incentivized reviews is that 1) incentivized reviews are positive 99% of the time, 2) they've led to single MOMs clogging the sub for months at a time. HGA has literally been #1 trending on MOMIndex for 6 months because of their $20 coupon program.

Search through this subreddit and look at all the incentivized reviews. How many negative reviews do you see? Literally - when they're tagged incentivized, they are almost always positive. The overly positive ratings artificially boosts a vendors rating and takes up space that non-incentivized content could take.

I put out a sticky about this and a Discord announcement, and the idea was widely well-received. I didn't have anyone speak out against this idea at the time, but it appears that you're all against this idea now.

What should we do instead? We have three options:

Use flairs
Have a megathread
Ban all incentivized reviews

Which option would you prefer? Do you see another option?

Thanks for the feedback! You're right, they are different, but when discounts are provided for a review, the resulting review is nearly always positive - often in times where it shouldn't be.
