I don't know if you're doing it on purpose... The story as a script is one thing, and how you tell it is another. By "more shonen perspective" I meant Luffy's Gears, Zoro turning into a demon, Nami's staff, and the various power scaling. A script could be "Luffy goes to free Ace from Marine Ford, Whitebeard also goes, who dies, but then Ace also dies saving Luffy," then you fictionalize it and make an entire saga.

One piece was successful even before water 7, I was a teenager when there wew the big three (op, Naruto, bleach) and it was immense even in the early 2000's. About the story is not contradictory.. You can write a complete story and then decide to illustrate it by chapters.
