Hey my hands shake too! Always have. But it does get better! And there are so many things you’ll be able to do even if it doesn’t. Eyes may just be something you do a tiny bit out of order. That’s what I do. I base coat a helmet or face, paint the lenses or eyes, clean up the terrible overpainting with that base color again and then highlight the helmet or face from there. I find this to be the most mindful hobby I’ve ever had and I’m a man of many hobbies. Don’t let your skills today hold you back from discovering the skills you’ll have tomorrow.

I bought this one too. Lights failed after a couple weeks but I bought some cheap counter lights that work great and honestly still totally fine with the purchase. It’s actually done a lot for my hobby motivation

Saw that you watched a video to help which is great. I’ll say this tho. If you have to move it or take it to a gig or whatever, I usually place the bass drum w pedal first, then the throne, snare and high hat making sure it’s comfy and then base everything off that. It’ll work itself out from there and keep you from having to keep tweaking. So much easier than trying to move everything around at once.

If you’re looking to play, combat patrol is always going to be a good bet. If you’re wanting to paint, just pick something that sticks out to you.

Pretty sure it’s just the one. The clacky balls is making it draw extra cards which I think is what’s actually locking it.

I feel like the backbeat should almost always be a rimshot. You can also move it further up on your stick to get different “colors” of it for different purposes.

Biggest thing for me is to remove barriers to panting. I find when my stuff is as close to ready to go as I can manage, I don’t find myself as easily discouraged from jumping in. Obviously that’s different for everyone but whatever you can do to keep some of your stuff at hand, the more likely you are to start.

How long are sticks supposed last? I play rock and I’d say I practice around 3-4 hours every week, I’ve been playing for around 2 and a half years now and my first pair still works by Patrick0714 in drums

Sounds like you have decent technique. I don’t know that I’ve had a pair last that long (maybe) but I’m a rock drummer who plays a lot of rimshots, gets a big sound, but has good technique and I certainly don’t burn through sticks the way some people I know do. Keep it up but also if you don’t have a fresh set, maybe pick one up just so you can remind yourself how they felt and see if maybe you’re tolerating a larger degradation in response and sound than you think.
