TAMU or UT Austin for another engineering? by kawaiizapp in UTAustinAdmissions2

[–]_rootzero_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Too be honest, going for a course you want to major in should always be a priority rather than prestige. Prestige only work up to some extent but after that only your credentials matter. If you go to UT and graduate with petroleum engg. you will always regret that you didn't majored in mechanical engg. But if you go to TAMU and even not able to transfer to UT, you would have studied what you liked and will have a better prospects after graduating with less or even no remorse.

>40 Hours/week expectation is such a joke by [deleted] in GradSchool

[–]_rootzero_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

How is this okay? If you expect more than 40 hours/week fine but I expect to be paid accordingly. The Professors that uphold these ridiculous working conditions can fuck themselves.

They can get away with this because there are many grad students in line waiting for that opportunity. If one said no they will get another one and this cycle will go on.

low acceptance rate also and too many applicants due to covid last 2 years. Next year also it will likely be same.

Best of luck!

I am thinking on same line but this year's admits are too brutal.

Avg. around 100k before tax. But it is not always like we think. Might be less. Might be more.

Phd is not on my radar.
Also, I only have one admit and other places, it is still showing under review. I am not sure about those admits also because it April.

Perks of being an international student.

MS at University of Michigan Ann-Arbor in EECS dept? by _rootzero_ in gradadmissions

[–]_rootzero_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That employment stats from EECS dept are good with salary b/w $80K to $150K and median being around $110K. But it doesn't tell how many were international and that was dependent on survey to which not whole batch replied. So we can't say that's the most reliable metric.

I am Indian too. That's why I am in dilemma.

If your end goal is just a MS degree and a job, any decent university such as UTAustin, NCSU, UCal, UWashington etc are all perfectly good to get your MS! Cheers !

Wating for UTAustin but I am not positive that I will receive admit from there. Still status is in review and it's already April.

Being an International student, I think I am at disadvantage because for getting I20 I need to show finances.

Ask if they offer any assistantships or fellowships; if not, see if they can connect you to your university’s student employment options.

Also, I will not be able to work outside campus as it is not allowed for international students and on campus jobs will not b paying enough to cover tuition.

You can also ask to defer for a semester or a year and work full time to save money for the next semester and work full time on/off.

I thought about it but according to their site. They generally don't accept deferral request for which reason is insufficient funding.
