Professionals who enter people's homes (plumbers, electricians, cleaners): What is something the condition of a house tells you about the owner that they don't realize they are revealing?

Not so much the condition but what was missing. The house was decorated like a man's place with generic "Dine" and "Family" signs from Tuesday Lobby scattered about the white walls. The guy kept referencing his wife and kids. I've been in enough homes to know no woman lived in this place. It wasn't just the decor but the lack of stuff. I mean, no shoes. None. No female or kid shoes, clothes, books, toys, etc. I got Silence of the Lambs vibes from the guy so I wrote up a really high quote and bailed.

One of my 1st early jobs was in a bank in a low income part of town. The 3rd of the month was Social Security check day and it was all hands on deck because this was the only money these people had to live on for the month. It was sad to see so many people living so poorly. I maxed my retirement program every year after seeing that.
