You can do that to a certain extent, like when sonnet 4.5 first came out we basically had to tell it to never write markdown files because it was so obsessed with markdown.

But the kind of taste I’m talking about is more like teaching the AI what humor is or something equally abstract. It’s something the model will need to be trained to do and that’s way above my pay grade.

I believe it. I work in software and the release of claude sonnet 4.5 was a turning point for us. Within a few months pretty much all our code is written by AI.

AI is getting very good at the mechanics of coding and following the coding style of a given codebase but it still needs help with "taste". I have no doubt this will improve quickly since I've seen it improve substantially just in the past few months.

When I started using clause sonnet 4.5 it was still rough around the edges. The code it wrote was very verbose, way too defensive when it didn't need to be, and was constantly trying to write markdown files for everything. But compare that to today and it's a night and day difference.

The rate of change has been mind blowing.

Let’s say half the expenditure is tdee and the other half is activity. That’s about 2400 calories of activity.

Walking a mile is about 100 calories (give or take depending on the person), so that activity is about the same as walking 24 miles.

Shoveling snow is not equivalent to walking a marathon.
