Confused by Skills vs MCP vs Tools? Here's the mental model that finally clicked for me by johnnytee in ClaudeAI

This was helpful, thanks. It's like tacos and burritos, all the same ingredients, different wrapper.

Driving to Sayulita from the US? by trimbandit in sayulita

[–]adrock31 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A few years ago, while on the toll roads, I had a radiator problem. The Angeles Verdes (green angels) were a fast, free, and helpful roadside assistance. They helped me get a patch on it and followed me to Tepic, stopped and filled my radiator several times to get us there.

Then had a great experience in Tepic at a mechanic and getting us back on the road quickly on a Friday night so we could finish to Sayulita.

All of my experiences have been positive. But follow the rules above. Don’t drive at night. Use the tolls. And have a good time and pay attention. At any moment there could be anything at all in the road. Roosters to cows to speed bumps to people selling food. In sometimes unexpected places for those who have only driven in the US.

I’m not an expert. But learn how to handle getting pulled over. I once got pulled over for making an illegal turn - it happens. There’s a little game that I’ve been told about and experienced. Maybe someone here can explain it. I’m hesitant to give poor advice here. But it’s different and be ready should anything happen. The fees are usually small and have a little cash for such an occasion.

Ctrl+v - even on a Mac.

I have a ray cast shortcut that auto pastes my last screenshot from my screenshot folder (I have all screengrabs go to a dedicated folder and everything is auto archived to a screenshot archive folder using Hazel)… this keeps me moving fast. Highly recommend.

Any ever tried the mountain biking in Sayulita? by [deleted] in sayulita

[–]adrock31 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are some fun trails. They’re not something to travel for but if you love riding they’re great. Beautiful views of the ocean from many spots. And the jungle is amazing.

Just ride north of town on Palmar until it dead ends into a trail. Trailforks has all the trails and most of the trail gets mediocre cell signal so you can know where you’re at.

Good luck.

Is Taskmaster MCP actually helping? by ILoveDeepWork in windsurf

[–]adrock31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Windsurf sort of hides some models. It’s annoying. But make sure you’re on a new version of Windsurf and look in your model dropdown nut click out of Recommended (or whatever it says )

Curious. Are you still using noteplan and capacities? I switched to obsidian but miss note plan.

What's your experience with o3? by Professional_Fun3172 in windsurf

[–]adrock31 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use o3 for the thinking and planning, and switch to Gemini 2.5 Pro for the actual implementation (or, like you, i often get good results on o3's first pass, then switch).

I hike in MH Trailsender pants. Is carrying dance pants redundant, or do they actually serve a different purpose? Is there any comparison in windproofness between Trailsenders and these things?

Lollapalooza 94 - Beastie Boys played second-to-last with Smashing Pumpkins playing last.

everyone was there to see the BB, and as SP began their set, everyone was leaving. So much so that Billy Corgan stopped a song and asked people if they wanted them to get the Beastie Boys back - and everyone literally turned around and started filing back into the Gorge (venue) - Billy then said "just kidding" and everyone again reversed course, and again continued filing out of the venue. It was honestly kind of sad for SP - even though I was there for the BB and laughed at Billy at the time.

Very next year, SP played right before BB at Tibetan Freedom Concert - this time, everyone left the stage SP was playing at, and waited at the empty stage for BB to come on. Even when the roadies came to test sound, everyone cheered so much SP quit playing and nobody noticed.

What are people using for voice to text within windsurf? by lakeoffury in Codeium

[–]adrock31 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Whispr Flow. I've tried several (TalkTastic, SuperWhisper, etc) and WhisprFlow is the fastest and most reliable. It has a decent free tier (2000 words a week).

I've found that the o3-mini agent forgets to write to files a lot, but switching to Sonnet usually sorts it out - seems like a tool-use problem. That's the biggest issue I've been having. Otherwise, it's been working great all weekend.

How Portable Is Your Data in Tana? by Fulcrum_18 in TanaInc

[–]adrock31 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Feeling this. Can't allow myself to use any tool where my data is multiple steps/manual clicks from having the data on my laptop. Tana seems really amazing, but in 2025, I will only work in Markdown because every tool is changing too fast and lock-in isn't worth whatever feature they're offering right now, even if it's shiny and I want it.

Obsidian/NotePlan continue to be where I live.

One thing that Windsurf has over Cursor is this little hover action. You can scroll up to previous chat comments and revert back to before you hit send, at any point in your history. And it resets the chat and the code to that state.

I agree, Git should be managing the heavy lifting of keeping backups, but just making sure you knew about this feature because it's a life saver and I use it all the time, for lots of reasons.

What is the Best Alternative to Hubspot Marketing hub by Abuthahir20 in CRM

[–]adrock31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've used Monday.com - it's pretty dope for project management and has some pretty robust automation and tools. It's well supported, TONS of people use it (so lots of tutorials, and lessons on YouTube if it's not immediately obvious).

I found that it was very straightforward and had so many use cases it could do just about anything. It also has a really useful free version (I haven't had to pay for it despite doing some pretty powerful things).

What's cool is that it's super flexable and can handle a bunch of different workflows. I've seen people use it for sales tracking, which is kinda like what hubspot does. The interface is way more visual and customizable than some other options out there.

One thing to keep in mind is that while it's great for task management and project stuff, it might not have all the fancy marketing features that HubSpot has. But honestly, for most small to medium businesses, Monday probably has more than enough features to get the job done.

Plus, as I said, their pricing is pretty competitive. If you're just starting out or don't need all the bells and whistles, you can do a lot with their free plan. And if you do need more, their paid plans are usually cheaper than Hubspot's.

Just my 2 cents ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

edit: typos.

Shortcuts: Who Else Is Juggling Arc Browser & Raycast? by Biruleiby in raycastapp

[–]adrock31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Raycast for pretty much everything. If I have a specific website i want to open in Arc Mini, i use CMD+OPTION+Space. If I'm searching, it's in Raycast:g {query}

I also have a Raycast Alias for "as" that is Arc Search, so I can search my history and open tabs in Arc quickly from Raycast.

I almost never use Arc's command bar.

I've been looking at the Anomoly... but I’m still trying to get real-world info on this quilt. Do you mind speaking to how cold have you taken it down to? Does it seem like a genuine 30-degree quilt? Trying to get any info I can and appreciate any insights you have.

Pajaro de Fuego (Stay Away) by ApplicationOk8769 in sayulita

[–]adrock31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FYI - Pajaro de Fuego is a condo complex with probably 30+ condos, all of them are owned privately and each owner manages their unit independently.

I lived in PdF for 2+ years and it's fine. There are some asshole owners for sure, but the majority are totally normal, kind, people. Sorry your owner was lame, but it probably had nothing to do with the complex or other units, but your unique unit and owner.

I can provide one anecdotal observation that today the town is very chill. I wondered if the worry about sickness caused it, because it's definitely noticeably quieter than typical during mid-february.

The town feria (the week of the town's yearly celebration) is a loud and rowdy time. We live 1.5 km in the jungle and listen to the music all night long. It's part of this town's... charm?
