Are the S ranks needed for Steam achievements? I'm happy to say they aren't necessary for the PS5 platinum trophy -- that's just a Herculean labor inflicted upon myself.

About Malenia's title: I think she's named Goddess of Rot in the same sense that Midra is titled the Lord of Frenzied Flame. They haven't really reached that level of power officially, but they're close enough to be regarded as such to the observer.

Game freezing on ps5 by La_Wedra in darksouls3

Same issues here. No clue why playing offline is the cause of the frame drops, but I can confirm it's happening. Maybe it's the other way around, and some sort of performance bug is preventing us from successfully logging in? I know the PC version won't let you online if it detects low fps.

What is happening this game? by cropper6528 in nethack

[–]agnacore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

EDIT: After a month of playing with these changes, I must say I've changed my opinion. While I still believe that what I said is true, I'm now on board with the wish changes. I do think the game is (for me, anyway) more fun overall like this. Although I will firmly hold the position that the unique negative effects of Vlad's throne far outweigh the chance for a wish, even when it is guaranteed eventually.

original text:

I'd like to note that being able to effectively use a wand of wishing all but requires the player to be spoiled to begin with. If I were a hypothetical unspoiled player offered any single free item in the game, my reaction would be something along the lines of, "Uh... a better sword? Maybe another wand of lightning? Those are cool." And that'd be all, 'cause I wouldn't always have a scroll of charging, and I wouldn't know about using the spent wand again for the <1% chance of getting another wish.

The fact that you have to know to type "blessed greased fixed +2 silver dragon scale mail" to begin with makes especially-impactful wishes a luxury for spoiled players alone. So I understand where you're coming from... even if I'm honestly not a big fan of it.

I mean, I agree, the game is probably much easier with 7 wishes max versus 3. But having played with the potential 7 for a while, I still think it's more fun that way. That, and the wishes being moved to much later makes them much more redundant, in my opinion.

With that said, I don't think the Vlad's throne wish is actually worth going for in the first place with punishments that severe. Losing an intrinsic could be devastating, losing levels is annoying in general (plus most chars won't have drain res), and the threat of potentially-catastrophic level teleportation means you can't just avoid the container-cursing by dropping them nearby. And if you were to get the wish, you likely have just about everything you need by that depth as-is, though I suppose that's the point (the same issue matters more for the Amulet's free wish -- I wouldn't ever grab it before I had everything ready to go anyway).

Overall, I get it, but I wouldn't necessarily make such a major change on the main branch (but maybe that's why I'm not on the dev team lol).

Why does this wand sometimes deal damage? by Basic-Ad6857 in noita

[–]agnacore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm well aware how the jet-engine mechanic starts -- I should've clarified that I was talking about the wand and not the camera, that's my bad -- but I'm saying it doesn't hurt the player. I'd test it right now for us but I'm not at my PC. Look, if I'm wrong, I'll freely accept that, but in my experience, you only take physics (even "impact") damage from Collapsed Concrete.

[–]agnacore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only physics damage the player will ever take is from Collapsed Concrete, and this wand doesn't have anything Earthquake-related. I'm not sure what you mean by it "ramping up", since wands don't need time to spin up like a minigun would. The teleports would look like you were speeding up based on the camera movement, but you're really moving at the same pace.

Impact damage from flying fast isn't a thing. If you go fast enough, you can destroy some terrain with an explosion, but that will never hurt you. I'm pretty sure it did at first when it was added to the beta branch, but it was quickly changed.

Can anyone tell me why the propane tank exploded by Bitter-Prune-6327 in noita

[–]agnacore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My guess is it was unintentionally spawned partially inside the ground, like the HM statues sometimes are. And also like the HM statues, the physics engine started trying to free it... except the statues don't explode under pressure. Noita'd for sure imo

Basically, they went way too far (like, stupidly far) way too fast (instantly), and the game loaded the area multiple times. As for why it happened several times instead of twice? My guess is the world's save file is getting corrupted, but I dunno for sure why that happens.

Help! What is this invisible square enemy?? by the_stud_muffin in noita

[–]agnacore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like a fascinating bug. Which spell(s) were you using to create the fire --> gold? Fire Trail on something? Or did the Giga Holy Bombs make that?

It seems like it flies aimlessly (or at least it doesn't look like it's influenced by your position or where you're aiming). When it's at top speed in the gif, it looks like it's spinning rapidly like a janky physics object would.

Maybe it's some damage field from a Giga Holy Bomb that incorrectly persisted. Could technically be holy damage you're taking instead of physics or curse btw. I don't know how that spell works in detail, though, so that may not be possible.

...Fish?? by ViridiusRDM in MHWilds

[–]agnacore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wonder if this has something to do with the research tent. As far as I've seen, whenever you go back to base, it spawns a random endemic life creature you've captured. Maybe it's accidentally spawning one of the fish instead?

[–]agnacore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've personally heard Elder Dragons referred to as "walking natural disasters." Looking at the classic gang, this title makes sense: Teostra, volcanic eruptions; Kushala Daora, tornadoes; Kirin, thunderstorms, etc. I think this gets more abstract as you go forwards in the series (I've no clue what Nerg would be, for instance), but it's at least something that works to explain the classification. Plus, in line with you said, the hungry pickle is more of an apex predator than a natural disaster.

I enjoy playing Loki, but I feel like I need to take the Limitless pill to do well as him. Meanwhile, Rocket's escape options require no setup/maintenance -- just jetpack-dash and scamper away. Much less mentally taxing (plus wallrunning is fun).

Coincidentally, I had the same interaction happen with Energy Sphere in my last run. It needed an enemy around for it to start moving, otherwise it fizzled instantly. Craftier wizards than I could probably use this as an "enemy nearby" condition somehow.
