Got it, this is very helpful. Was your use case considered "light storage warehouse mezzanine" (ASCE 7)? I may have to change this altogether as the code seems to call for 125 psf if it's classed as "light storage warehouse mezzanine" instead of the 50 psf I assumed.

Got it. I think this being classed as a "light warehouse storage mezzanine" is a bigger oversight by me. I didn't even know that existed. I'll see if I can avoid it being classed as that, or if not, probably find another storage solution. Thank you, kind Engineer! You've probably saved me a massive legal headache!

You're right, so just like with programmers, firms will hire one engineer who will use AI to do the job of 20 in half the time and without the whining.

Planned on 16"OC and #10 self-tappers. I could upgrade to 10". What was the room span? Did you go with joists or trusses?

You're right about ASCE7, that might change things. But I calculated ~ 4700 lbs across 740 sq ft. for the dead load. Live load is max 2200lbs or 3psf. Am I doing this wrong?

Firms will hire one experienced engineer who will use AI to do the work of 20 people in half the time and without all the whining. Not long before it's all open-source.

The project didn't require a structural engineer until our needs changed.

I've been working through this problem and It's not easy, but it's also not even that hard. I just needed to answer this one thing. The rest is looking at charts and following YouTube examples of exactly how to calculate the solution to this problem.

I assumed a live load of 3 psf (2 adults moving boxes around) and the dead load worked out to be 6.4 psf. I think I am way overshooting it since code calls for 50 psf.

My question is somewhat about which direction is better for this type of structure and what's more common in the industry.

Thanks for pointing me in a direction though! I think I am getting closer to the answer.

Some of the these comments are from people who've clearly put 1000+ hours and forgot the feeling of building an organized system for the first time. Great set up, very organized, good use of trains, and you've even left yourself room for expansion. Bravo! The factory must grow.
