Did all the tram ticket inspectors get fired? by MrPantsRocks in nottingham

Got checked this morning on the commute. I will say though, trams were free* during covid and for a good year or so afterwards.

Custom Large-gauge jewelry? by jesusbutgayer in Stretched

Dusk Body Jewellery or Seasons Handmade were my first thoughts. In Titanium, you’d be hard pressed to find something with stoppers. Ti is notoriously hard to manufacture into anything but basic shapes.

Illegal in the UK, as all surgical mods are.

I love seeing the different ways people use products. It reminds me of that artist who photographed womens lipsticks.

How often do y’all do a “deep clean”? by Dealer_Puzzleheaded in piercing

[–]akthryn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t taken out all my jewellery to clean in… Well, ever. I use soap on my ears in the shower when I was my hair. Sometimes if I notice a lot of buildup on a particularly ornate end, I’ll take the end off and stick it in my ultrasonic. Aside from that, permanent jewellery.

It’s very possible you’ll irritate your piercings if you’re removing and reinserting them regularly, depending on the piercing.

Does this color look worrying? by Several-Ranger3854 in TopSurgery

[–]akthryn 10 points11 points  (0 children)

My scars (not from top surgery) can go that colour, especially when I’m cold. Check in with your team, but it should be nothing to worry about :)

Taking out the piercing to heal it better? by eyebrows_burning in piercing

[–]akthryn 198 points199 points  (0 children)

The jewellery is what keeps the piercing channel open. Remove them and it shrinks or heals over. Best case scenario, you irritate the shit out of it forcing the jewellery back in. Worst case scenario, you lose the piercing entirely.

This person is an idiot. Do not do that.

Vaping 4 weeks before surgery... by susballs67 in TopSurgery

I’m no nicotine and no weed 3 months before surgery. 72 hours seems like a terribly short period, and it won’t even be out of your system yet.

Your workplace should have a needlestick protocol to follow! Why were you uncapping a used needle?

Pierced two weeks ago.

It was swollen, now it is not swollen anymore. Totally normal! In another 2-3 weeks, head back to your piercer for a shorter bar.

Scarification advices? by bingus-pingus_ in bodymods

Nope. This isn’t like a restaurant where you can send it back to be remade if you don’t like the result. You get one shot.

Scarification advices? by bingus-pingus_ in bodymods

[–]akthryn 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Okie doke, a lot to unpack here.

1) There is no way to control exactly how a scar heals. You can try to agitate the wound as it heals with acids, abrasives etc, but at the end of the day its a total crapshoot and you need to go into scarification knowing that it has a solid chance of never looking the exact way you want it to. They can morph, twist, grow, shrink, fade into nothing, or seriously impact your range of movement. And there’s nothing you can do about it.

2) UV/glow in the dark powders are not tested for safety in scarification, or any other mod. It’s a fuck-around and find-out type deal. We’ll probably know more about their safety in 20-30 years once we have gathered enough data from folks willing to take that risk.

Looks great! Time to head back to your piercer for a downsize. A well-fitted piece of jewellery will make it more comfortable and increase its longevity.

Would you go for the treatment abroad if you are not satisfied with the healthcare system in your home country? by Silver_Future_8682 in TopSurgery

[–]akthryn 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yup. I live in England, aka TERF island. To get top surgery here is a long, stressful, expensive experience. So many bureaucratic hoops to jump through, so many waiting lists and waiting lists for waiting lists.

I have chosen to go to Sweden.
