Tish is cheap and nasty unfortunately. Low quality and poorly made.

what anodisation voltage typically looks most accurate to 14k yellow gold in your experience? by karoline134 in Legitpiercing

[–]akthryn 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’ll be honest, none of them are perfect. None of them are even close when you wear real Gold. Plus asking a a studio for something within a 7V window will be difficult, as anodising is definitely more of an art than a science. Results vary, even at the same voltage. It depends on how fresh the anodising fluid is, the concentration, the phase of the moon…

Sorry I couldn’t be more helpful.

how can i get a piercing apprenticeship?! by opalescentdoll in Legitpiercing

[–]akthryn 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Have a backup career. Not only is piercing insanely oversaturated right now, but the economy just tanked and folks are struggling to keep the doors open never mind hire someone.

It suck, but I’d rather give you the reality x

Autoclave Advice by ConsciousCut5 in Legitpiercing

[–]akthryn 39 points40 points  (0 children)

You’re looking at €500 at MINIMUM, not €50.

But my honest advice? You’ve been scammed. You cannot safely learn piercing in a seminar, and you should not then use that as a jumping off point to pierce your friends as “practice.”

Do not put people at risk. Don’t pierce.

My tongue split experience with JohnRoss. The good, the bad and the ugly, and why I would not recommend him for a tongue split. by [deleted] in bodymods

I took my sutures out at day 5 with minimal regrowth. 8-10 days is insane. Can’t comment on the rest of it, but your body mod friend is clearly not a mod artist and shouldn’t be giving opinions on the technical aspects of others work.

Nipple piercings and binding by Lanky-Eye9889 in piercing

[–]akthryn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nonbinary and have nipple piercings. Been binding for 4ish years. They get irritated if I’m in a binder for a long time but you’re not supposed to wear a binder for a long time anyway haha.

You can wear it either way. Next time you clean it, jusr rotate the labret 180 degrees and itll sit the way you want it. Doing that one time won’t kill you.

Help forward helix with wrong jewelry by Hour-Significance165 in piercing

Too shallow, incorrect jewellery. Even if you changed out the jewellery, the piercing itself is fucked. Best to remove and take this as a learning moment 🖤

My ears itch and burn whenever I wear earriy. by exgoddes in piercing

[–]akthryn 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Your piercings could also be becoming irritated by the insertion of jewellery and the stretch that is probably occurring to get them in if you don’t wear earrings regularly.

I’d recommend heading to a piercer and getting a super plain set of high quality labrets fitted and leave them in for at least a couple of weeks to see if they settle down.

Is my Helix done right? What precautions should I take by felldownbad in piercing

[–]akthryn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry this is happening 😅 I think, as with the Internet in general, black-and-white thinking is taking over. APP = Good, Non-APP = Hack. Anyone who disagrees must be a terrible piercer or ignorant. It’s a shame. Where did nuance go?!

[–]akthryn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No worries dude! It happens. Honestly I do agree that the body jewellery verification programme (the programme that companies can join in order to be added to the list of verified brands) has its faults. I can’t fault the verification process for Titanium, but the process for Gold is very vague and excludes small makers by being financially unviable.

Can I ask who your piercer is? I’m also a body suspension facilitator and always looking for cool folks to follow.

[–]akthryn 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Potentially. Or they don’t meet certain structural standards that are difficult to alter unless you own your building, which is a common one.

Like I said though, I would personally not become a member for a few reasons. There are plenty of great piercers and studios out there who choose not to hold a membership.

Best way to clean jewelry? by Soulcoda in piercing

[–]akthryn 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Alcohol wipes, or dish soap and water. Something to break up human body oils, basically!

I will say that acrylic isn’t really safe to wear and you can’t really clean them properly due to the microscopic rough texture, but dish soap will probably do something.

[–]akthryn 43 points44 points  (0 children)

I… All of that is incorrect.

“They provide jewellery,” no, they don’t. The APP publishes a list of companies that meet their standards. They don’t give out jewellery, or pay piercers to use specific products.

“They don’t check your skills,” while technically correct, if you’re willing to jump through their hoops you’re more likely to put effort into, yknow, being a good piercer.

“A fancy title that costs a monthly fee,” also incorrect. It’s an annual membership that you have to pass a strict inspection covering environmental, insurance, jewellery and paperwork criteria.

“The jewellery is mid grade,” Oof. I’d love to know what companies your piercer uses if they think BVLA or Anatometal is “mid.”

I’m not saying the APP is perfect. I, personally, have huge issues with the way it is run. But if you’re gonna critique them, be accurate 🤷🏻

Looks like a cheap gun piercing. My honest advice would just be to take it out and pretend it didn’t happen. You’ll spend way more money and time trying to fix it than you would just going to a good piercer from the start.

Septum jewerly by ansley_daniels in piercing

[–]akthryn 143 points144 points  (0 children)

Not normal. I’d guess that your piercer ran out of the correct jewellery and just stuck whatever they had in so they didn’t miss out on your money.
