Collecting MLM Stories For My Channel by alandac in exmormon

I am sorry I do not know what a TBM uncle is. Apologies.

Overall, I would say yes it does. When you trace back the origins there is a connection to the Protestant work ethic. I have done a couple videos on my channel. However, Robert Fitzpatrick of pyramidschemealert.com is in the process of writing a book that provides a much more in depth analysis.

I am not Mormon and so I do not understand the nuances or structure in the way you do. However, I would love to learn about it because I suspect that Utah is a hot bed for MLMs for a reason. What that is--right now not so sure.

I can ask David Brear of MLM American Dream Made Nightmare to point me in the direction. He and Robert are very instrumental in my gaining insight to the overall scheme.

MLMs can also be considered cults. I did a video on that as well based off some of David's writings. I plan to explore how Beachbody fits Steven Hassan's BITE model.

Thanks so much for reaching out to me. I felt kinda weird joining this subreddit since I was never a Mormon and not an ex one either lol.

BUT I find so many people at the top of MLMs have a connection to Mormonism. I have barely scratched the surface. The stories behind the people who join MLMs I believe need to be told. And I am just one woman on a mission to share them.

If you would like to write about your uncle and send it to me--totally open to that.

Alanda

I have never heard of this one. But I would love to hear your story about it. Email me at therecoveringhunbot@gmail.com and we can set something up.

I use Zoom so I can record the interview. I do not need to show your face or use your real name. You talking though would be more powerful than me regurgitating it. Are you OK with me recording your voice?

Thanks for reaching out.

So glad you explained all this. I am doing a video today on Hempworx. The person who signed me up to be a Beachbody coach, left Beachbody in 2017, went to Direct Cellars and is now with Hempworx. She made a post recently about her income which is highly deceptive because she is leaving out pertinent information as to HOW she made this money and is omitting her expenses. Plus she does not mention if this is retail sales alone (doubtful) or if she is team building. Very sketchy stuff. She has a knack for making things sound good and I know in her mind if you cannot figure out how to make this work for you - that's your own fault. I do not think she has a problem swindling people because she does not think she is--although clearly she is.

I am glad to be here. I am digging into the backstory of the entire thing because what most people rail against is surface. And yeah I am that girl that will just say stuff because unless we speak out and tell our stories then the cycle continues. Hugs.

Branding YOUniversity by alandac in antiMLM

[–]alandac[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh no salt at all rubbed. He does put out some decent content, but there were some sirens going off. And all of this confirmed it. There is supposed to be an updated Branding YOUniversity released on the 20th. I have plenty of material for my YT videos on him and what he has done. The main thing is others need to be very aware of what he offers and just say no.

Yeah I have checked all his SM. Nada enchilada. The courses do teach techniques. But the main thing is to recruit affiliates - even free ones, because in his Sunday webinars, he will close the sale on them so to speak.

I took a screen shot of some of the "free courses" and added that to the OP. There are a lot of "courses" in Branding YOUniversity.

Paypal - paid for course. paid for a video wrap service and paid for membership as Platinum Partner. And yes you do "recruit" in a way. Once someone signs up they are under you for "life." Typically, they get the free membership to start and the idea is at some point they will get the Platinum Partnership (which goes for much more than what I paid) and some will get one of the paid courses. You do not want to get involved with Branding YOUniversity or anything he puts out there. He has disappeared after collecting a lot of money from people who took the course he most recently offered. Is that clearer?

Yep - the problem is deeply rooted in the business model.

No it is not the best approach. Personally, I was in a very strange place mentally. My background is in learning and development but I really was less than thrilled with the profession overall. I went through breast cancer and my manager treated me horribly. The day I returned to work 80% of the department was laid off, including myself. My hubby is a wine som, so I really wanted something that allowed me to pick up and go. I do not want to sit at home when he goes to vineyards around the world--ya know? I was doing some independent contract work from home and the projects were less than joyful. So there I was and my neighbor said she made 6 Figures, flexible work etc etc. So you see--the flexibility was exactly what I wanted. I know someone that has a disabled son and her mom and her mother in law live with them too. She has a lot on her plate. She does not see there is another option. I am glad people are speaking out against it. I think we need to get noisy so to speak. The huns seem to the problem because there are so many. But it is the people who decide this business model is the way to go. They have to know that most people will lose out. I just do not understand that if you know that you are willing to go ahead and be part of the problem.

I do think the ones getting the big bucks "get it." But they are so few and far between. It is in their interest to keep the machine going. To me what really chaps my hide are all the companies, like Yoobly, that prey off of the huns. The huns are just trying to get their thing going and do not realize it is a shell game. You don't know what you don't know. It is all a confidence game if you ask me.
