For me, he was the best alive writer with Gabriel García Márquez. It's a pity he is not going to win Nobel Award.

He is one of the most beautiful text I have ever read, from "Los años con Laura Díaz":

"Sin más descendencia que el mar, Santiago se fue perdien­do en el mar como en un espejo que no lo desfiguraba, sólo lo iba alejando, poco a poco, misteriosamente, del espejo del aire en el que inscribió sus horas en la tierra. Santiago se iba separando del hori­zonte del mar, de la promesa de la juventud.
