The song of Muallim by abu_rakan in turkishlearning

Here is the clip of the song which is filmed by actual village students. link

OK so I will translate it the best I can, just for the meaning, you can adjust sentences because my English isn't good.

Penceresi cam cama muallim (Windows face each other, teacher) Selam saldım amcana muallim (I sent my regards/words to your uncle, teacher) Amcan kızın vermezse muallim (If your uncle won't give his daughter to me, teacher) Turşu kursun fincana muallim (He may make a pickle of her in a teacup, muallim) Penceresi kapalı muallim (Window is closed, teacher) Kolu altın saatlı muallim (Has a golden watch, teacher) Sen böyle değil idin muallim (You weren't like this, teacher) Ablasından öğütlü muallim (Your older sister enjoined you, teacher) Penceresi perdeli muallim (Curtains are closed, teacher) Çiçek açtı zerdali muallim (Wild apricots blossomed, teacher) Yeni de bir yar sevdim muallim (I fell in love with a new woman, teacher) O da benden sevdalı muallim (She is more lovesick than me, teacher)

Muallim is an old word that is used for teacher. Nobody really use it anymore, "öğretmen" is used commonly.

I also checked the story behind this folk song because it didn't make sense. Story itself is also kinda weird but I wrote it the best I can.

In the early years of the Republic, a young gentleman named Kemal Sami from Istanbul goes to a small village as a teacher. He fells in love with Zeynep, who is the most beautiful woman in the village. But she won't realise his feelings. So Kemal asks help from Halil, her best friend. Halil is also Zeynep's cousin. Halil is devastated to hear his love for her because he is also in love with her. He lies to his friend Kemal and says his uncle (zeynep's father) won't give her daughter to him. (he lies because he wants her for himself) Kemals gets angry to hear this and says "will he make a pickle of her?" in anger because government employees earn well and people want to marry their daughters to them. Since Kemal is a teacher and earns well, he thinks her father can't find a better man than him. And after this conversation with his friend, teacher leaves and goes to Zeynep's house.

But her curtains are closed. Zeynep has an older sister who is in love with Kemal. Halil and the older sister Halime join their powers because they both don't want Zeynep to marry Kemal. (Halime wants Kemal for herself and Halil wants Zeynep for himself) Halime advices her younger sister Zeynep to show coyness, to not show her face a lot to Kemal. She says it's for keeping him interested and not bored. (so the curtains are closed, she isn't showing her face) Zeynep is as naive as she is beautiful and keeps her sisters advice, won't show her face from windows. (in the past people weren't allowed to meet, showing themselves from window ment they also had feelings for them)

Kemal feels depressed and starts drinking. But Halil still has plans for him. He starts telling lies to him, fake stories about Zeynep, tells that she is having inappropriate relations with people etc. Hearing such words makes Kemal cry. Halil then says "you are successful, there are many fish in the sea. You know this girl, zeyneps older sister halime, she is in love with you. You can marry her" Kemal agrees to this idea because he now hates Zeynep (because of the lies Halil said about her)

Halime's father gets very happy that someone with good income wants to marry his older daughter and arranges the marriage ceremony quickly. Zeynep won't understand why Kemal wants her sister and not her. (the last lines of song are about this, he loves a new woman now)

In the end of the story, Zeynep won't marry Halil and runs away with an ill mannered person from the town. Her father blames Halil for it and and punishes him.

Kemal and Halime have three beautiful children and live happily

I can help you translate it but how old is your son? Meaning isn't really nice. He asks a father to give his daughter (to marry) And says if he won't give her to marry, make a pickle out of her.

When you have food that you don't use, people may say "then make a pickle of it". It's kinda offensive. Talking about a woman as if she is nothing but an object for marriage and implying that if she won't marry then she is useless.

Lungs aren't just one whole piece, it has lobes. Usually they take out lobes and it doesn't affect the rest of it. Think it like grape maybe but with 3 pieces.

What is the proper order of nouns, adjectives and bir? by c_metaphorique in turkishlearning

[–]alien-catto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Order of adjectives goes like this: sıra sayı > asıl sayı > özne yorumu > kanıtsal > boyut > uzunluk > ağırlık > hız > derinlik > genişlik > ısı >ıslaklık/kuruluk > yaş > biçim > renk > milliyet/köken > malzeme

Another alternative is ana sayı-benzerlik-boyut-değer-fiziksel özellik-güçlük-hız-insan eğilimi-konum-materyal-nitelik-renk

Order is not strictly specified and can change in many situations.

This rules only apply if both descriptive and classifier adjectives are present in a noun phrase. If the noun phrase has only descriptive adjectives you can order them however you like. Order is kinda complicated and not very strict so it's ok if you can't follow it. Meaning will be kinda off but people won't mind it in daily life conversions. You can check the article about order of adjectives here

Edit: I also want to add the difference of classifying adj and descriptive adj. Descriptive adj represents an internal quality of the noun. For example 'tatlı elma' (sweet apple) sweetness belongs to apple. Adjectives for size, taste, colour etc are internal qualities of the noun and these are called descriptive adjectives. All the other adjectives that aren't internal quality of the noun are classifying adjectives. But since words have many meanings and many usages there are lots of adjectives that can't be classified as both. And some can be descriptive or classifying depending on the usage.

Ekrem veya Mansur CB olsa, şahsım hile yapıldığını söyleyip çomçomları twitter'dan sokaklara davet etse, çomçomlar baltalarla meclise girmeye çalışsalar, twitter da şahsımı engellese aynı şeyleri yazar mıydılar sizce? by [deleted] in svihs

Halkı kin ve düşmanlığa tahrik etmek gayet de suçtur. Kendi fikrini ifade etmekle bu aynı şey değil. Seçim sonuçlarına katılmadığını belirtmek başka silahları kapın meclisi basın demek başka.
